Bad day or great day — when one just needs carbs and bacon and sparking red wine to survive…Here’s your fix: Lambrusco & Carbonara at Hoboken’s Sorellina Italian Kitchen & Wine Bar, located at 11th and Washington in Hoboken! The perfect mix of comforting & refreshing. Behold.
The bubbly you see above is Lambrusco: a sparkling red {yes! that’s a thing!} from the Emilia Romagna region of Italy. That’s the same region that makes Ferrari, Ducati, and Maserati. So you can drink it like a baller. If you’re not sure about your wine choices, you’re in luck: the menu lists the wines from light to heavier {think: more oak-y}, and the servers aren’t snobby about questions regarding drinks.
But we digress. Now, to focus on the menu below. HOUSE-MADE PASTA.
The ‘Chitarra Alla Carbonara’ delivers on bacony, peppery, cheesy, eggy, and slightly salty. You’re supposed to share it with the table. But you eat it all {oops}. ALSO! Just like champagne pairs with fried chicken…Lambrusco {don’t forget the sparkly wine we mentioned above while you drool over the gnocchi pic below} pairs beautifully with hard Italian cheeses. Like the cheeses you see melting luxuriously below on the carbonara.
Oh, and while you’re at it…order the fluffy kale pesto ‘Drop Gnocchi’, too. You will not be dropping your fork like it’s hot after you eat these delicious dishes + drinks. In general, if you’re opting for a meat and cheese plate, you will not be disappointed. The service is friendly, and it adds to the positive feels we have about the place. The chandeliers and buttoned-back couch-like chairs also add to the ambiance, which is similar to its predecessor, Helmer’s, but with a chicer, more upscale vibe.
Take this advice and use it well — next time you visit Sorellina.
