Southern Comfort in Jersey City

BOOTS & BONES is a popular BBQ spot in Historic Downtown Jersey City that has both a restaurant and a speakeasy bar. Located just steps away from the Grove Street PATH Station and a stone’s throw from Hoboken and FiDi, this restaurant is known for its mouthwatering barbeque and southern comfort food with a laid-back, cozy vibe. The restaurant even has a full-sized outdoor patio with a constant flow of sunshine during the warmer months.

The menu is filled with tender and flavorful smoked meats as well as indulgent sides + desserts. Whether craving a juicy rack of ribs or a hearty plate of pulled pork, BOOTS & BONES is the Nashville of the North. The restaurant is not the only spot worthy of kudos — hidden downstairs is an upscale speakeasy, Under The Boot, where guests can enjoy a selection of elevated, after-dinner cocktails.

The Menu

With a Nashville-style menu — created by Chef Kenny Callaghan, formerly of Blue Smoke — that is bursting at the seams to welcome BBQ lovers from all regions, BOOTS & BONES is the place to be. While the menu seems totally indulgent, there are some lighter options available as well.

The menu has a number of classic BBQ joint dishes like an 18-Hour Hickory Smoked Beef Brisket, Chopped Pork Shoulder, and St. Louis Ribs, among other options. If deciding on one dish to try is an issue, try a little bit of everything with ‘The Works,’ — which includes four ribs, four pork shoulders, brisket, smoked pulled chicken, and smoked sausage.

Also available is a huge selection of drinks, including classics like margaritas (strawberry, passionfruit, and mango), frozen flights (4), as well as some originals like the Two Boots (half frozen marg + half frozé). BOOTS & BONES also has Frozen Fridays, where frozen drinks are just $10 until 7PM. The Jersey City restaurant’s Jolly Dolly Cocktail is popular among locals and is made with Ketel One Citron, Cointreau, pineapple juice, and fresh lime juice, served in a Jolly Dolly Disco Flask.

Happy Hour is available Monday through Friday until 7PM and includes discounted appetizers, $5 Miller Lite + Bud Light Drafts, $6 domestic cans, $7 well drinks, $8 wine, and $25 White Claw + High Noon Buckets.

Happy Hour + Specials

Started by Kenny Caulfield + Jeff Lam, the team behind BOOTS & BONES was determined to bring a little piece of Nashville to Jersey City. With daily specials, happy hour, and of course, BBQ, this multi-level space is more than just a restaurant — it’s a good time.

The restaurant, which is just a quick PATH ride from Manhattan and Hoboken, has brunch on the weekend from 10AM to 3:30PM with menu choices like The Cure French Toast Sandwich (smoked pork belly, smoked gouda, and an over-easy egg with berry maple syrup and home fries), a chicken + egg waffle sandwich, brisket hash, and ricotta stuffed french toast, among other options.

The southern hospitality doesn’t just end with dinner. BOOTS & BONES also has a monthly ‘Swiftie Saturday’ series, happy hour from 3PM to 7PM on weekdays, daily specials and private event space in both the restaurant (20-350 guests) and in the speakeasy, Under the Boot (20-150 guests).

Daily specials include “Bucket It’s Monday” with $25 buckets of wings and High Noons, as well as Taco Tuesday with $10 Three Amigos Tacos, $8 margaritas (on the rocks or frozen), and $25 buckets of Corona + Modelo.
