A new restaurant has taken over the former spot of Wild Fusion. Salt + Ginger, a new Chinese eatery, has opened at 313 Grove Street in downtown Jersey City. The location joins several other restaurants on Grove Street across from Jersey City Hall, within a short walk from the Grove Street PATH station. The restaurant is still in its soft opening stages, but it’s already a hit among the community. Read on to learn more about Salt + Ginger.
Taking Over Wild Fusion
The former popular Asian restaurant, Wild Fusion, was reported closed in October 2019. The Pan Asian place specialized in southeast Asian and Japanese dishes. Fast forward to February 2022, many locals spotted a new sign taking over Wild Fusion’s spot.
In mid-March, Salt + Ginger opened for pickup and delivery orders only. Indoor dining then began in April, but to this day, it’s still going through a soft opening. The staff uses disposable plates and utensils to serve the food and there is still some construction that’s being done inside.

The main feature of the restaurant, which is still being set up, will be the soup dumpling station (see below), which is set up as a table with chairs around where diners can sit and watch the chef make the soup dumplings right in front of them.
The vibe of the local spot is chill and quiet. Tables and chairs are spaced apart and there is limited seating. Hanging wall plants and a green plant backdrop take over the front of the restaurant, and there are also plants around the restaurant, adding to the calmness of the space.
Owner Kevin Gu told The Hoboken Girl, “We like being part of the neighborhood. It’s very quiet and peaceful.”
About the Menu
Salt + Ginger has a limited menu that’s available for those who want to dine in, pick up, or order via a delivery app. Aligning with the name of the restaurant, Kevin said, “Salt and ginger are very basic ingredients for Chinese cooking and we want everything to be simple. We are serving authentic Chinese food, specifically Shanghainese. Our specialty will be soup dumplings.”
The menu consists of various lunch combos including wine marinated chicken combo, braised tofu combo box, wok-fried beef and broccoli combo box, and sweet and sour pork ribs combo box. All combos come with rice, potato salad, and pickled vegetables.
The dinner menu consists of appetizers, entrees, noodles, and vegetarian options. These include Shanghai-style tomato soup, sweet and tangy tomato chicken breast, signature salt and pepper pork hock, peanut sauce noodles, and wok-fried yu choi.
Visiting Salt + Ginger
Salt + Ginger is located at 313 Grove Street, close to the PATH station. The hours of operation are Wednesday through Saturday from 11:30AM to 8:30PM and Sunday from 12PM to 8:30PM. The restaurant is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
