It’s safe to say that clean beauty is on the rise, especially in Hoboken and Jersey City. More and more people are becoming aware of the products they put into and onto their bodies, including hair care. Krista Misuraca, owner of Salon 10N {5 McWilliams Place, Jersey City} has been treating clients to high-quality hair care in a holistic atmosphere since March 2018. Hoboken Girl recently caught up with Krista to learn more about Salon 10N and the strides they are making in the community towards clean beauty. Read on to learn about the salon and what they offer their clients.

About Krista

Krista has been living in Jersey City for the last 17 years. She attended FIT where she double majored in product development and home furnishing but knew there was something else in store for her career. So, she took time off to discover what that was. Growing up with a mother who was a beautician opened her up to the world of hair and styling. “Whatever you want to do, get a job doing it,” Krista’s therapist told her. It was great advice and she soon found herself working at Blu Salon in Edgewater, where she found her passion. Krista worked there for 12 years before moving onto her next venture.

She met Eric and Paul Silverman, two brothers who have been investing in Jersey City for quite some time, years before the creation of Salon 10N. They had put up so many incredible buildings {think GP’s and Charles + Co. Apartments} and Krista knew that if anyone could find her a space to open up her own salon, it would be them.

Hobbs Inc

“They really invest in you,” Krista explained. “They will do everything in their power to help you succeed.” After some time, they finally found the perfect space for Krista to pursue everything she had dreamed of. The location was perfect and the partnership was a match. Just like that, Salon 10N was born.

Salon 10N {which was named after Krista’s Jersey City apartment} features a holistic approach to beauty. Krista is a Holistic Health Coach and has always been keen on maintaining a healthy, organic lifestyle and that has definitely made its way into her salon.

“The FDA doesn’t regulate beauty products,” Krista shared. “It’s important to research what goes into your body and onto your skin.” Her goal was to create a salon that embraced these ideals and maintain a safe environment for everyone involved — both clients and stylists. From the products used at the salon to the quality of life she provides for her stylists, Krista is changing the face of beauty for the better. “I want my staff to be happy. I care about them and their well-being. If you want lunch, take lunch. If you need time off, take off,” she stressed. Her main goal is to make sure that everyone who walks into the salon is happy and healthy.

The salon tends to both male and female clients and uses product lines that are in alignment with Krista’s beliefs on beauty. Davines, an amazing B Corporation Company {which means they have a dedication and responsibility to the environment} is one of the main product lines used at the salon. Davines is a family-owned business that utilizes small, independent farmers in Italy to make their products. The brand is environmentally conscious and even uses biodegradable + recycled material to create the containers. {Fun fact: the pots used to hold the products are also food safe and can be used as Tupperware when finished with the product.}

Salon 10N also uses Innersense Organic Beauty, a company that is completely 100% clean and nontoxic. There are no artificial fragrances and they are the purest line in the business. They also have an equivalent price point to Davines, which allows Krista’s clients to choose products based on what is important to them, rather than price.

Krista and her stylists are incredibly talented and skilled in their craft. Hand-painted color is definitely what clients want right now but the salon offers many different options like balayage, baby-lights, and traditional foil highlights. She tends to a very wide age range of clients, from their mid-20s all the way to their 70s. There are a lot of JC residents that have been in the area forever and welcomed Salon 10N into the neighborhood with open arms. The salon does not offer perms, relaxers, or Keratins as they use chemicals that are harmful to clients and stylists. They also offer color lines that are free of ammonia and PPD.

The Future for Salon 10N

Krista has been training to provide NBR Extensions {Natural Beaded Rows}, a line originally from Laguna Beach that provides less contact with the client’s own hair and minimizes damage. She plans to offer this service in 2020 when she and her stylists are properly trained. She also hopes to continue to build clientele and educate others in using holistic approaches to beauty. “We just want clients to feel relaxed and well cared for in our salon,” she said.

Salon 10N’s unique mission and approach to clean beauty are definitely inspiring and we are excited to see what the future has in store for the business.
