Roast’d Coffee has expanded to Jersey City and, within a few months, has already become part of people’s everyday routine. Each cup of coffee is freshly roasted onsite at the shop located at 10 River Drive South from, what it calls, “the best beans from all over the world.” Serving up a variety of coffee roasts and types of coffee drinks, Roast’d might just become someone’s new favorite coffee shop, especially when its goal is to interact with the community. Expanding to Hudson County

Roast’d Coffee originated in Hasbrouck Heights, New Jersey, and was a concept that began over seven years ago, Jersey City’s owner Romie Alcebar told The Hoboken Girl. Romie partnered with the flagship store’s owner to open the second location in Fort Lee in the summer of 2019. Roast’d then expanded to New York and opened its first NY location in Nanuet in November 2022.

Fast-forward to the present time, Romie and his partners, Pat Supekar and Steve Alessi, opened the fourth location in Jersey City at 10 River Drive South. The grand opening date was October 16th, 2023 — and it was a long time coming. The coffee shop took over Babo Teahouse, which has been a part of Jersey City for 20 years until it closed its doors in October 2022.

“I’ve always thought of this place as the bubble tea shop, so we’ve always come to this area. We love it. The market is right for me,” Romie said, explaining what the owners loved about the location. “It’s the right location to serve this type of coffee.”

Roast’d is conveniently located along the Jersey City waterfront and near the Newport PATH station. Romie said that, throughout the day, the shop gets waves of customers with the busiest time being in the morning and also after lunch and dinner.

What Makes Roast’d Different

Romie told HG that Roast’d Coffee is, literally, roasted coffee. “We roast our own beans that come from all over the world — Africa, Latin America, Asian continents, etc,” he shared. “Every coffee you’re going to get here is going to be fresh.”

There are eight to 10 varieties of single-origin coffees, including Kivu, a dark roast; Legender, a medium dark roast; P’NG (Papua New Guinea), a medium roast; and Tango, a medium light roast.

The business owner continued, “We roast everything once or twice a week… We pre-weigh roasted coffee beans for each cup size, then when an order comes in, we grind, put it in the cylinder, and then pour.  It’s very efficient. Pour-over is very popular here. It’s what people come here for.”

On the menu are a variety of coffee drinks, including a hot pour-over, iced pour-over, espresso, macchiato, latte, cappuccino, mocha made with dark Belgian chocolate, cold brew, and tea drinks.

There are also a variety of baked goods and pastries that are made by friends of the owners. These include crumb cake, espresso brownie, apple cinnamon muffin, orange cranberry muffin, pecan bar, butter croissant, Oreo bar, baklava treats, wellness bars, and granola bars.

Check It Out

Customers can also buy one-pound bags of the brand’s specialty coffee beans as well as Roast’d Coffee merchandise. What also attracts customers to Roast’d Coffee, apart from its coffee, is the sense of community.

With tables to sit at and do work on a laptop if needed or tables with chairs to catch up with a friend, Roast’d is more than a place to go just to get a boost of energy. Romie told HG, “We have to find out what customers like and have this conversation with them and engage them through coffee.”

Romie said that he’s focused on introducing customers to this style of coffee and building Jersey City’s location before even thinking about opening another location. However, he did mention the brand’s fourth location has become more and more popular since opening in October.

“We’ve been getting tremendous support and we love the interaction with the community. It’s becoming their daily thing. It’s more not just coffee, but having a conversation with them whether it’s coffee or other things. That’s what we’re focusing on,” Romie shared.
