A Guide to Local Pumpkin Spice Coffee Drinks in Hoboken

Written by:

Ah autumn, the season of apple picking, leaf peeping and, perhaps most importantly, pumpkin spice drinks {because we’re basic}. While Starbucks may have popularized the flavor back in 2003, the pumpkin spice trend shows no signs of slowing down — everything from pizza to Pringles to hair color gets the pumpkin treatment these days.

While you can always find the OG PSL at any of the three Starbucks locations across the Mile Square {and yes, it’s already debuted as of August 24th along with Dunkin’ last week}, we’ve rounded up a few additional pumpkin options from locally-owned businesses. Each one brings its own unique twist to the trend, so don’t be afraid to give all of these pumpkin spice spots in Hoboken a try {and mix it up with the various milk alternatives}.

Disclaimer: Some of these spots may not have pumpkin available yet, but have offered these in previous years. Please contact them or call ahead for confirmation.

Hudson Coffee {1100 Maxwell Lane}

Hudson Coffee is the new kid on the block, and we already predict that they will crush the pumpkin spice game. The uptown coffee shop shared with us that the pumpkin spice latte on their menu is 100% homemade {with real pumpkin and spices} and will be available in October. Another fall item is the caramel apple cider {pictured above} that is just as comforting.

Jefferson’s Coffee {1001 Madison Street + 534 Washington Street}

This cool cafe has two locations in Hoboken, and to celebrate fall they are selling pumpkin, gingerbread, and maple lattes — with more options coming soon.  And if niche milk is your thing, this is the place to be: options include almond, soy, coconut, macadamia, hemp, whole, skim and 2% — all milk changes are free of charge.

Black Rail Coffee {800 Jackson Street}

Looking to shop local instead of hitting the major chains? Black Rail Coffee’s Pumpkin Pie Latte is a worthy alternative to the original PSL {and it’s made with real pumpkin}. It’s sweet, strong, and tastes like, well, autumn in a cup. It totally hits the morning coffee craving or the after-work dessert sweet spot. Choose between whole, soy, skim, almond, or coconut milk.

Bwè Kafe {1002 Washington Street}

The trendy cafe known for its elaborate coffee art has been on the autumn drink train for years, offering an extremely Insta-worthy Fall Spice Latte {pumpkin + coffee art = likes for days}. Choose your milk {almond and soy alternatives available} and relax. Bonus: Bwè donates a portion of their proceeds to youth initiatives in Haiti. Socially conscious and delicious? How could we resist!

Bean Vault {1 Newark Street}

Available in October, stop in Bean Vault Coffee for their in-house Pumpkin Spice Latte or an Apple Cider before strolling the waterfront or heading to work. The best part? Both come hot or iced — so you’ll be ready for whatever this crazy weather brings.

Empire Coffee + Tea Co. {338 Bloomfield Street}

For those planning to drink pumpkin-flavored coffee until Thanksgiving’s in the rearview mirror, $3 or $4 per cup can be a serious strain on the spending money. Empire Coffee + Tea Co. offers ground pumpkin coffee by the pound. Their Pumpkin Spice runs $9.99, and their Halloween Blend {which contains a quarter mix of pumpkin} is $14.99. Get ready to start each day with the smell of autumn wafting from the kitchen.

City of Saints {1320 Bloomfield Street}

Good news, City of Saints is bringing back their beloved Autumn Spice this season – a pumpkin spice-esque drink that’s made with organic pumpkin pie mixture and traditional pumpkin spices to create an extra flavorful, fuller take on the traditional taste. But where they’re really upping the fall drink game is with their brand new “Coffee Toddy.” Yep, like our favorite cozy, cold-weather whiskey drink, hold the whiskey… and the tea. The Coffee Toddy uses coffee instead of tea or hot water and spices it with clove, ginger, lemon juice, and honey. Talk about the perfect choice for a chilly night after a long day at work.

Hidden Grounds {700 Garden Street}

Another new spot, Hidden Grounds is offering two fall flavored coffees this season — Pumpkin Spice and Lavendar {yum} availble in hot or iced. Hidden Grounds also offers whole, skim, soy, almond, and oat milk.
