In case you were worried about getting your local midtown Java fix, Jefferson’s Coffee officially has a second home on Washington Street! The West Hoboken-born coffee shop has opened a location at 534 Washington Street. Known for their killer matcha lattes and relaxed vibe, it’s a welcome addition to the midtown Hoboken neighborhood. Here’s a bit more about the new Jefferson’s Coffee Hoboken spot {and its sister digs at 1001 Madison Street, uptown}:

The new digs

The coffee shop uptown, which opened in February 2016, boasts an intimate, casual vibe — where you can walk in, grab a cup of joe, chat with the owners, and sit to do a little work if you should desire. The new space has fun floral tables and chairs, imprinted with “JC” for Jefferson’s Coffee {not to be confused with Chilltown JC} and a similar vibe, complete with exposed brick and new trimmings.

Its owner, Jeff, had grown up with his grandmother’s delectable coffee beans and roasts, leading him to have a very advanced palate and a lifelong quest for the best brew. His menu offers espresso, cafe americano, pour over, cappucinos, kafette, and of course, matcha and chai lattes and teas. Yum. Jefferson’s also carries dairy milk alternatives such as almond and macadamia nut milk.

The matcha lattes tho.

For those craving something more refreshing, they carry strawberry iced tea {as well as ginger, rhubarb, and a few others}, and it’s a must-order. But if we’re being honest, the fan favorite is definitely the matcha latte — it’s beyond delicious and really a standout, especially iced with some macadamia nut milk. {If you don’t know what a matcha latte is, click here for the scoop on this velvety green goodness.} As far as pastries and other items to nosh on, they carry some gluten-free and regular baked goods, as well as doughnuts from time-to-time.

Prices are standard — think Starbucks but slightly lower, which is a #win any day. But what really draws us in to Jefferson’s are the people; it’s so nice to be able to go to a neighborhood coffee spot and have the owner remember your order. Something very small in the scheme of things, but definitely a big draw for a Mile Square with tons of coffee shops all around.
