The gym would total up to a whopping 21,000 square feet, undergoing a big renovation to feature a new layout, new locker rooms, and workout areas. Submitted plans call for constructing new entrance doors and a re-painting the storefront, Jersey Digs reported.

Planet Fitness would be just off of Route 440 next to the NJCU baseball fields and campus, private residential neighborhood Society Hill, K Mart, ACME, Home Depot, and food chains like Wendy’s. The location straddles the Jersey City/Bayonne border, making it easy for Bayonne residents to access it as well.

Jersey City’s zoning board has not green-lighted the plans. If approved by the board, this location will be the fourth one in Hudson County joining the outposts in Hoboken {605 Washington Street}, Bayonne {175 Avenue A}, and North Bergen {8101 Tonnele Avenue}.

Planet Fitness has a variety of packages, including a $10/month membership, and then the Black Card membership, which includes access to all its locations all over the world without additional fees. The Black Card also includes free fitness training, the option to being a free guest, access to the tanning beds, access to the massage chairs, 50% off drinks, travel deals, and other perks. Non-members can also cash in on a free day pass to experience the facility for themselves without any commitment beforehand.

Planet Fitness will join several large fitness gyms already located within Jersey City including CrossFit Jersey City, Retro Fitness, Surge Fitness, Base, Blink Fitness, and Intrepid Gym — as well as a Planet Fitness in Hoboken.

An official opening date has not been announced, as the Jersey City zoning board still has to set a date to review the plans for the property. We will keep you updated as details unfold.
