Olivia Rodrigo has been hinting that a new album is on the way, and it looks like Hoboken, New Jersey, may be part of it. Ahead of the official announcement of her third album last week, a pink lock was spotted at Pier C Park, and fans started to wonder if it could be a potential Easter egg connected to the project. Naturally, we had to investigate — and as of April 6th, it looks like Ms. Rodrigo confirmed the Hoboken connection on Instagram. Read on for more about this possible Easter egg in Hoboken + the new album.
On April 2nd, pop singer Olivia Rodrigo took to Instagram to announce her third studio album, You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love.
The buildup to the album had been ongoing for months. First, according to HerCampus, a mural in Los Angeles was spotted, with a stylized version of Olivia’s logo front and center. The mural started off a dark purple, but was re-painted each day to eventually become a lighter pink, and the word ‘love’ was added.
As soon as fans started speculating about the meaning of the word, Olivia’s British Vogue interview and cover came out. Interviewer Amel Mukhtar listened to three tracks and shared the following: “The fan theories were right: these are all love songs, but specifically about the obsession and anxiety of it, or the depression when your lover is gone.”

But how does Hoboken fit into all of this?
An HG reader DM’ed us on Monday, March 30th, saying that there was a locket found on the waterfront by Pier C, and we were also sent a few TikToks, including this one:
@whoissdanielaaa Found the lock at Pier C in Hoboken!!! So fun to find on my jog today! 🏃♀️💗 #or3 #oliviarodrigo #oliviarodrigolock ♬ vampire – Olivia Rodrigo
So, of course, we had to do some digging ourselves and walk over. Lo and behold, we found it!
Since lockets are usually tied to love and memories, fans thought this could be another little clue about the album’s themes. Between the murals, the interviews, and now this find on the waterfront, it’s started to feel like it’s all connected.
Then, on April 6th, Olivia seemed to confirm the connection on Instagram, sharing a mysterious video of her hooking the lock on Hoboken’s Pier C herself. The location is New York, NY, but we’d know that view from anywhere. We even cross-referenced a few of the nearby locks to confirm. See the post below.

The Hoboken post was the fourth in a series featuring locks in other locations, like LA, London, and Paris. In each of the videos, Olivia is just outside the city mentioned, as if locking herself out of it.
Hoboken just found its way into the Olivia Rodrigo universe, and we’re pretty happy to be here.
