The Hoboken and Jersey City business landscape can be a revolving door. As new eateries, boutiques, and more open each season, unfortunately, some familiar spots close their doors. After nine years in the Downtown Jersey City neighborhood, Miso Ramen, known for its gluten-free ramen options (a difficult thing to master!), is closing its doors at 189 Newark Avenue. The restaurant announced on social media that its last day of operations will be Thursday, May 29th, 2025. Read on for more about Miso Ramen’s closure in Jersey City, New Jersey.
The Closure
One of Jersey City’s go-to ramen spots, Miso Ramen, took to Instagram to announce its closure on Newark Avenue. “The last day of operations will be Thursday, May 29th,” the post reads. “Thank you for all of your support over the years.”

Miso Ramen has been a Jersey City staple since its opening in early 2016. Using a 20-hour process to create homemade noodles, the restaurant served a diverse ramen menu featuring spicy and savory dishes. The menu had a variety of broths like tonkatsu, miso, salt, and shoyu, as well as gluten-free and vegan options like its signature vegetable ramen. It was known as one of the only gluten-free ramen options in the area — a difficult thing to master.
The spot is also known for more than just its food. This restaurant was also the meeting place for the local couple Danielle Libatique and Donald John “DJ” Hoffman, who had their first date at Miso Ramen back in 2017.
New to Downtown Jersey City
^ Café con Rumba
In recent months, many new businesses have sprouted up in Downtown JC. A few doors down from Miso Ramen at 564 Newark Avenue, the team behind Rumba’s Cafe, Rumba Cubana, and Chango Kitchen opened another Latin eatery called Café con Rumba this past April. Back in January, the speakeasy-style lounge, Don’t Tell Liv, opened at 138 Newark Avenue.
