The Heights in Jersey City just lost a sweet spot on Palisade — but fear not, as there’s still organic ice cream in Hamilton Park to be found. On February 17th, Emma Taylor, the owner of Milk Sugar Love, a woman-owned popular ice cream company, announced via the brand’s Instagram that the Jersey City Heights storefront had closed. This was the shop’s second location, located at 394 Palisade Avenue, but the downtown Jersey City location at Hamilton Park remains open. Emma’s delicious treats are known regionally, and the brand is known for its unique flavors and organic recipes.

After much success in Hamilton Park, Emma expanded to the Heights. However, on February 17th she announced the permanent closure of the Heights location via social media.

The Instagram caption from today’s post read, “As of today, Milk Sugar Love The Heights is permanently closed. Milk Sugar Love Hamilton Park remains open and we are looking forward to a great 2022. It was a pleasure getting to know the Heights community over the last three years but I do hope I’ll see many of your smiling faces downtown at Hamilton Park this summer.”

Several years ago, Emma decided to quit her job as an art director in the city and become a pastry chef, and the rest was (pretty sweet) history.

Milk Sugar Love has been serving up organic and fresh ice cream flavors that change on the regular, as well as outside-the-box ice cream sandwich and cake creations since 2013.  The remaining location is at 19 McWilliams Place in the Hamilton Park neighborhood.

The menu changes daily and weekly, depending on the time of year. Some of the standout flavors are Matcha Brownie, Red Velvet Dream, Lemon and Olive Oil, Earl Grey Fudge, and the number one seller –Salted Caramel. Milk Sugar Love carries some dairy-free ice cream flavors from time to time, and Emma is known for her amazing sprinkle cakes and cookies.

Fret not, ice cream lovers, as the Hamilton Park Milk Sugar Love ice cream parlor is still open, just in time for the soon-to-come warmer days. Keep up with the seasonal flavors by following the shop on its Instagram.
