Ali Garcia and Igor Tolkach are a Jersey City couple who recently got engaged in Mallorca, Spain. The two met in New York City around eight years ago and have been together since — living in JC together for the past three years. We had the chance to talk with this local pair about their future wedding plans. Read on to learn more about Ali and Igor and their local love story.
The Hoboken Girl: What do you both do for a living?
Ali Garcia: I am a Global Consumer Marketing Manager for MAC Cosmetics. Igor is a Visual Merchandising Designer for Array.
HG: What city do you both live in + for how long have you lived there? What’s your favorite part about living here?
AG: We live in Jersey City together and have lived here for 3 years. We love how chill and easy it is to live here!
HG: When and where did you and your partner meet?
AG: We met in NYC a little over eight years ago when I was interning there for the summer before my Senior year of college. He was one of my friend’s roommates and was living and working in Brooklyn.

HG: How long have you been together?
AG: We have been together for about 8 years.
HG: Was there an instant connection/chemistry between you two?
AG: Yes, for sure! We had an instant spark that I had never felt with anyone before. I immediately felt comfortable with him and felt like I had known him for years.
HG: What are the qualities you love most about each other?
AG: I love how kind, calm, honest, and hard-working Igor is. Igor loves how supportive, communicative, and engaging I am.
HG: Tell us about your proposal.
AG: Igor proposed in Mallorca, Spain on top of this gorgeous vista during the sunset on a special vacation that we had planned this past June. It was so gorgeous and romantic, we would not change it for the world!
HG: How surprised were you? Were you expecting it?
AG: I honestly was not that surprised as friends had somewhat tipped me off haha. Also, I know that he would have wanted to propose somewhere special and it felt like the right moment.
HG: How long have you been engaged + what has been the best part about it?
AG: We have been engaged for about two months and it has just been so lovely knowing that we have so much to look forward to as a couple.
HG: Where are you planning to get married?
AG: We are planning to get married in Martha’s Vineyard likely at the end of September 2023.
HG: What part of the wedding planning process are you most excited about + not looking forward to?
AG: We are most excited about seeing our vision come to life and getting to sample all of the delicious food. We are not really looking forward to putting together the guest list since we do not want a huge wedding but also don’t like leaving people out.
HG: How many people do you plan to have at your wedding?
AG: We would ideally like 150 people but will likely have close to 200.

HG: What are you looking forward to most as a married couple?
AG: We are looking forward to just being together and experiencing the ups and downs of life with each other by our sides.
HG: Do you have a favorite date night spot locally?
AG: We love Corto in the Heights, it’s a delicious BYOB Italian restaurant. We also love The Boil in Jersey City, it has such tasty seafood!
