Walking down Monroe Street, you may or may not be surprised that the little area by the Monroe Center has had some new little spots pop up, adding to the budding West Hoboken neighborhood. From specialty chocolates to art, barware, candles, and beyond — this local shop is a one-stop for all things unique. Maison 24, located inside the Monroe Center, has been in business for an impressive 11 years and has newly arrived in Hoboken. We were lucky enough to chat with the owners Allison and Louis to learn all about their business. Read on to learn all about Maison 24, the owners, and more.

Owners Allison and Louis consider Maison 24 a luxury lifestyle retailer because the shop sells items that appeal to just about everyone. In-store and online, Maison 24 sells everything from salad dressings to specialty chocolates, retro telephones, neon art, faux fur eye masks, leather clutches, and a whole lot more. As far as price points go, the shop appeals to everyone in that aspect, too. Whether it’s a splurge-worthy shopping spree or not, visitors will 100% find something here — whether it’s a personal gift or something for someone special.

Many of the vendors here hail from France, Italy, and the Netherlands and are the first {and in some cases, the only} retailer to sell most of these goods in the United States — talk about exclusive.

Meet the Owners

Maison 24 opened in 2008, just before the economic crash that occurred the following fall. Allison and Louis were prepared for the worst but successfully made it through. The two are now celebrating their 11th year in business.

Allison and Louis are brother and sister and shared with Hoboken Girl that they have always been extremely close and never thought twice about becoming business partners. They are both like-minded and gravitate towards the same aesthetic, which makes decision-making for the store a breeze. Allison and Louis explained that customers are often shocked to hear they are brother and sister and joke that they could never imagine working so closely with a sibling. Luckily for this duo, owning a business together comes easy.

As for being a Hoboken-based shop, it’s the friendly and warm community that makes running + owning a business in Mile Square so special.

“In the short time we’ve been open we have received so many well wishes, helpful tips, friendly service at restaurants and other retailers,” they said. “It’s just a pleasure doing business where the majority of the stores are still independents and neighbors look out for one another. There is a strong sense of community in Hoboken and we’re happy to be part of it.”
