Man Shot in Jersey City Target Parking Lot

On Thursday, September 22nd, a man was shot in the abdomen in the parking lot of Target in Jersey City. According to NJ.com, the shooting happened around 8:45PM. The man struggled to breathe while being treated at the scene. Current investigation is searching for a vehicle that fled north toward Hoboken.

The anticipation has been building in recent months for the opening of Brooklyn Dumpling Shop in Hoboken and now — we have answers. According to Patch, the shop passed its health inspection this week, which means official plans to open the week of October 25th are good to go. Forbes Ranks 15 NJ Employers Among ‘America’s Best’

Forbes recently released a list of 1,382 employers who were ranked as ‘America’s Best’, Patch reported. The rankings were based on anonymous survey results of 70,000 Americans working for businesses of over 500 people. The top employers in New Jersey include Microsoft, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, Weichert Realtors, NJM Insurance, and Costco Wholesale.

Bond Vet, a woman-led, veterinarian-founded company, recently announced it will be expanding to two new locations in Hoboken and Jersey City. Bond Vet provides both primary care and urgent care veterinary services including wellness exams, vaccines, spay/neuters, and more. The new Hoboken clinic will be located at 1425 Washington Street and the Jersey City clinic will be located at 351 Marin Boulevard.


Hoboken’s Wine Dad’s Opens Jersey City Location

Wine Dad’s, located at 14th Street next to Trader Joe’s in Hoboken, recently opened a new location in Hudson County, per Jersey Digs. Just across the Hoboken + Jersey City border, Wine Dad’s has officially opened inside the Soho Lofts at 273 16th Street in Jersey City.


Filming Begins for ‘Inappropriate Behavior’ Featuring Robert De Niro

Hudson County has been a hotspot for movie filming in recent months, and Jersey City’s Bergen-Lafayette neighborhood is the latest set location for a new movie. According to Jersey Digs, the all-star cast for the upcoming film ‘Inappropriate Behavior’ includes Robert De Niro, Rose Byrne, Rainn Wilson, and Whoopi Goldberg.


Monroe’s Hoboken Rebrands and Opens Latin Restaurant ‘Panela’

Monroe’s Hoboken has closed down and rebranded as a new Latin restaurant called Panela. The transformation took place quickly — in a two week period — and is set to reopen its doors at 36-42 Newark Street by the end of this month. Panela will encompass cuisine from Latin America countries but still pay homage to the Hoboken community. The soft opening was held on Wednesday, September 21st before the official opening next week. Gourmet Toast Cafe ‘Toastique’ is Coming to Uptown Hoboken

Uptown Hobokenites: we have good news for you. We just got word that a cafe specializing in gourmet toast and juices is coming to 1450 Washington Street. The cafe, called Toastique, was founded by Brianna Keefe a few years ago in hopes that she could create clean, healthy, and delicious meals to share with different communities. Though the shop started with only one storefront in DC, it now has locations all around the DC area and even in Colorado — and it’s continuing to expand. It also currently has one other New Jersey location in Stone Harbor. Toastique sells gourmet toast (yes, including avocado toast), bowls, smoothies, and juices. Signs Have Gone Up at Caffe Buon Gusto in Uptown Hoboken

Hoboken is home to some of the best Italian restaurants. Every block has a different spot for you to eat all the pasta and chicken parm that your heart desires. Yet another popular Italian restaurant is making its way to Hoboken, and we could not be more excited. News broke a couple years back that Caffe Buon Gusto of Manhattan + Brooklyn would be opening at 918 Washington Street — though it has yet to officially open its doors. Despite not yet knowing an exact opening date, we just got word that signage has gone up, suggesting that this new Italian restaurant may be inching closer to its opening date. Custom Ink to Open Washington Street Location in Hoboken

Custom Ink, a t-shirt chain founded in 1999, has put up signs in the windows of 706 Washington Street in Hoboken, per Patch. Formerly occupied by Mathnasium, an after-school tutoring program, the spot will now be a local go-to for customized t-shirts and products.


PNC Bank Closes Uptown Hoboken Location

The PNC Bank, located at 1125 Maxwell Lane in Hoboken, has closed. Signage in the window says the space is for lease, Patch reported. No additional information is available at this time regarding a new tenant.


Garden Street Hemp to Close in Hoboken

Garden Street Hemp, located at 103 Garden Street in Hoboken, is currently advertising a store closing sale, per Patch. The Garden Street Instagram account has been switched to private and the website is now inactive. The shop opened almost exactly two years ago, right around Labor Day 2020.


Blue Foundry Bank Holds Grand Opening Event in Hoboken

Blue Foundry Bank recently opened at 334 Washington Street in Hoboken, taking over the space formerly housing Wise Vision Center, now located across the street. The new bank put up signage as early as April 2022. The company began in 1939, changing names over the years until in 2019, the current Blue Foundry name was installed.


Madewell Slated to Open Next Week in Hoboken

A new Madewell outpost, located at 202 Washington Street in Hoboken, is slated to open next week on Thursday, September 29th, Patch reported. The Madewell brand originally started out as men’s workwear in 1937 but was later purchased in 2004 and converted to women’s wear. The shop has been popular ever since.


This Jersey City Stylist is Opening Her Own Local Salon this Fall

Jersey City resident Michelle Arriaga is making her mark on the Hudson County beauty scene by opening her own salon. The upcoming opening of ten23 Style Lounge, located at 203 Brunswick Street in Jersey City, will mark the culmination of many years of work and training for Michelle. Her vision for the space is for clients to walk away feeling their best and for other creatives and artists to meet and share ideas. Fall Arts + Music Festival Headliner Announced

The Hoboken Fall Arts + Music Festival announced the headlining performers this week as the Alejandro Escovedo Band, according to Patch. Escovedo has collaborated with Bruce Springsteen and has performed in other bands including The Nuns, Rank and File, and True Believers. The festival will take place on Sunday, October 2nd from 11AM to 6PM. 


Environmental Advocates Host Rally In Favor of NYC Congestion Pricing

Environmental, safe street, and commuter advocacy groups joined forces to host a rally in Jersey City on Thursday, September 22nd. According to NJ.com, the groups are in favor of the controversial congestion pricing proposed for out-of-state drivers in the business districts in Manhattan. The pricing plan calls for tolls ranging from $5 to $23 a day for drivers going south of 60th Street, resulting in an estimated $5,000 cost each year.


Mayor Fulop Announces ‘More than Likely’ Plan to Run for Governor

Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop shared in an interview that he will “more than likely” run for Governor in 2025, per Tap Into. If he runs, he would campaign for environmental leadership, advances in transportation, and more development. Mayor Fulop has held his current position for 12 years.


City of Hoboken Approves First Retail Cannabis Shop

The Hoboken Planning Board has officially approved the city’s first retail cannabis shop, Blue Violets LLC. According to Tap Into, the board approved the application on Thursday, September 15th. The shop is located at 628 Washington Street in Hoboken.


Macy’s Holds Thanksgiving Parade Balloon Field Training in Hoboken

On Sunday, September 18th, Macy’s held field training for its Thanksgiving Day Parade balloon operators, per Patch. The training has been held in Hoboken over the years, but the most recent time was in 2019. The training took place at the field at Stevens Institute of Technology. Three new companies have contracted space in one of Journal Square’s newly renovated high-rise buildings, according to Jersey Digs. The companies include Alliance Community Healthcare, Hanger Prosthetics, and Inter-Con Security. The KABR Group recently completed renovations which totaled $5 million.


Free Community Bike Event Schedule for 9/25

Bike Hoboken is hosting a community-wide biking event on Sunday, September 25th. According to Tap Into, the event will kick off at 11AM at Southwest Park, located at 58 Jackson Street in Hoboken. Helmets are required for riders under the age of 17.


New Executive Director Appointed for Hoboken Business Alliance

The Hoboken Business Alliance recently appointed Roxanne Earley as the new Executive Director. According to Patch, Earley previously served as Director of the New York City Department of Small Business Services’ Improvement District Program. She is an award-winning and internationally recognized leader in economic development.


Aussie-Style Bourke Street Bakery to Open in Jersey City

After nearly two decades of popularity in New York City, Bourke Street Bakery is coming to Hudson County. According to Jersey Digs, the new storefront will be located at 180 Morgan Street in the Powerhouse Arts District of Jersey City. 16th Annual Our Lady of Grace FunFest Held in Hoboken

The Annual Our Lady of Grace FunFest was held this week in Hoboken at Church Square Park beginning on Saturday, September 24th. According to NJ.com, the festival kicked off with NiteFest festivities, including an outdoor biergarten, and continued on Sunday, September 25th from 10AM to 4PM.


Jersey City Hosted Free Sickle Cell Trait Testing This Week

For the remainder of the month, New York Blood Center will provide free sickle cell trait testing at select blood drives in the area, reported Patch. The Newport Mall hosted testing this week on Friday, September 23rd. The rest of the testing events will be held in Brooklyn, Staten Island Ferry, in Queens, and at NYC Health Hospitals.


Museum of Jersey City History Approved to Lease Historic Apple Tree House

The Jersey City Council has officially approved the Museum of Jersey City’s application to lease the Historic Landmark Apple Tree House. This vote supports the current administration’s goal to revive Journal Square as a regional destination for arts and culture in New Jersey. The first floor of the Museum of Jersey City History at Apple Tree House will host permanent historical exhibits highlighting different aspects of the City’s history. The level above will feature rotating Jersey City-themed historical exhibitions. 


National Car Seat Check Day Held 9/24 in Jersey City

On Saturday, September 24th, the Jersey City Medical Center hosted an event for National Seat Check Saturday in the Target parking lot. New parents, current parents, grandparents, and other caregivers who have car seats installed in their cars participated in the event. If you missed the event and would like to have your car seat checked, local fire stations will check them for free.


Shipyard Lane Walkway to be Replaced with Pavers

In a notice to property owners and officials, GZA GeoEnvironmental, Inc. announced that the west side walkway along Shipyard Lane will be replaced with new pavers to match the existing path along Frank Sinatra Drive. The uptown Hoboken project also includes an upgraded chain link fence along the waterside of the walkway, a new streetlamp, and two new tree planters.


Study Shows New Jersey is Obsessed with Gym Time

New research from a recent study revealed that New Jersey residents are the most obsessed with hitting the gym. Fitness experts at Fitness volt analyzed Google Trends data over the course of one year, focusing on search terms used by gym-goers. New Jersey scored a 672, leading the country by a landslide. New Jersey was followed by California and Hawaii.

The staff and students at Alexander D. Sullivan Elementary School (PS 30) recently welcomed a new mural on the exterior of the school. According to @JerseyCityNJ, the new addition is the work of Detroit-based painter, Louise Jones. The students will have the honor of giving the mural an official title.  The post reads, “Louise Jones (née Chen), aka Ouizi, is best known for her large-scale floral mural installations seen in public spaces throughout the United States; from museums to public parks. She currently lives and works in Detroit.”


Route 440 Officially Reopens Following Emergency Road Repairs

Portions of Route 440 have been under repair over the past few weeks, causing additional traffic for commuters. As of this week, the repairs are complete and New Jersey traffic can return to its regular programming, according to @JerseyCityNJ. The post reads, “Rt. 440 is officially reopened in both directions. Emergency construction to fix the century-old sewer lines is now completed. The Kellogg Street Loop will remain closed, but will reopen soon. This urgent construction was necessary to fix a road collapse and loss of critical city services. Thank you again for your cooperation.”


Community Rallies Around Hoboken Resident Diagnosed with Breast Cancer

Angelynn Nichole Romero

Angelynn Nichole Romero, a dental technician at Hoboken Vet Animal Clinic, was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. Her team at work has rallied around her, commenting that Nichole “has a very magnetic sort of personality and is always a pleasure to be around.” Her team at work has put together ways for the community to do the same: click here to support Nichole through this challenging time.
