Hoboken and Jersey City are no strangers to delicious bakeries — and now, yet another popular NYC bakery will be joining the Jersey City food scene. Bourke Street Bakery, an Australian-style eatery, will have a new storefront location in the Powerhouse Arts District at 180 Morgan Street. The shop serves award-winning pies, seasonal + breakfast sandwiches, a host of different pastries, and even freshly-made challah. This will be the store’s first New Jersey location, and while there isn’t an exact opening date just yet, the team is hoping to open up sometime this year. Read on for what we know about this new JC bakery.

Origins

In 2004, two chefs-turned-bakers opened a rustic corner bakery on Bourke Street in Sydney, Australia. What Paul Allam and David McGuinness lacked in business knowledge, they made up for in their passion for food. Together, they honored good produce, strong flavors, and artisan baking traditions. The priority of their shop, Bourke Street Bakery, was simple: to make everything by hand.

As the brick-and-mortar location blossomed into a Sydney staple, the duo’s dreams blossomed too. Paul and David set their sights on NYC, and maintaining their home-made values, ventured out of the Land Down Under to open the first-ever Bourke Street Bakery U.S. location. Years later, the bakery has four storefronts throughout the city: in Chelsea, NoMad, Upper West Side, and in the Grand Central Terminal.

What to Expect

The new JC outpost will be Bourke Street Bakery’s first New Jersey location. Despite the geographic change, the bakery’s delicious treats will be made with the same quality and care. All products are made in-house at the flagship NYC location.

Previous Bourke Street menus feature an array of baked goods, from pastries to breakfast sandwiches to cakes and even freshly-baked challah bread. The bakery also boasts a selection of award-winning pies and seasonal sandwiches. There will be a few exclusive menu items at the Jersey City location, though the details of those items have yet to be determined. Regardless, patrons can expect Bourke Street Bakery to become a breakfast go-to.
