There is a new dining + entertainment destination in the Harborside building that brings an NYC vibe to this Jersey City business area. The District, located at 210 Hudson Street in Jersey City, is a modern bar + restaurant that is quickly becoming a go-to for craft cocktails and amazing food or enjoying a romantic night out. Hoboken to Eliminate Free Sunday Parking on Washington Street in November
The Hoboken City Council voted on the elimination of free Sunday parking in some Hoboken business areas, and as of November 17th, 2024, it’s actually happening. After voting to introduce the ordinance at an August City Council meeting, a public hearing and final vote took place in September — and eliminated free parking on Washington Street starting in November. Currently, parking is free for both residents and visitors on Sundays in certain Hoboken areas. Click here for more.
Hoboken is Mentioned in the New York Times Regarding Flooding
America has a flooding problem. Per the New York Times, global warming is making storms more severe because warmer air holds more water. Advances in design, science, and engineering have allowed the United States and other wealthy countries to try new ideas for coping with water. Cities like Hoboken, NJ have embraced the concept of building spaces designed to capture and hold stormwater.
New Japanese Restaurant, Prime Omakase, Soft Opens in Jersey City

Prime Omakase comes to us from the same team as East Hana JC — a Japanese restaurant located at 103 Montgomery Street. This new omakase and sushi restaurant is located right across the road at 111 Montgomery Street, on the second floor of Liberty Prime Steakhouse. City of Hoboken Chooses New Cost-Effective Renewable Energy Program
The City of Hoboken has again chosen an environmentally friendly energy supplier for the town that the city says is more cost-effective. Per Patch Hoboken, the city is hosting an in-person information session on the Hoboken Renewable Energy Program on October 28th at the Multi-Service Center at 124 Grand Street from 12:30PM-2:30PM. The city’s consultant will provide details on the program, which the city says has saved residents over $800,000 since its launch.
Hoboken Coffee Shop, The Little Local, is Under New Ownership

The Little Local, a Hoboken coffee shop located at 519 Adams Street, is under new ownership as of October 22nd. The former owners of the coffee shop shared the news via Instagram while assuring that The Little Local will continue to caffeinate its neighbors.
Hoboken Police Department to Participate in National Prescription Take Back Day
On October 26th from 10AM to 2PM, the Hoboken Police Department participated in the Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA) National Prescription Take Back Day. On this day, residents are provided a safe and anonymous disposal method for any unneeded or expired prescription drugs, which can often become a gateway to addiction. Per a City of Hoboken press release, residents dropped off old, expired, unneeded, and unwanted tablets, capsules, patches, and other solid forms of prescription drugs, no questions asked, in the lobby area of the following locations: Hoboken Police Headquarters, 106 Hudson Street, Fox Hill Gardens, 311 13th Street, Adams Gardens, 220 Adams Street, and Monroe Gardens, 221 Jackson Street.
NYC-Based Hashi Market is Coming to Jersey City Soon

Hashi Market, an NYC-based Japanese-style supermarket, is crossing the Hudson River to open up its first New Jersey outpost soon. The new market will be located at 75 Park Lane South in Jersey City inside the Park + Shore Development and signage has already been erected in the windows. Some of the items Jersey City locals can expect from this new spot include Japanese cuisine like sushi, fruits + vegetables, and international snacks and drinks. Click here for more.
WalletHub Ranks Jersey City as Second Best City for Halloween in 2024
Personal finance website WalletHub released its report on the Best Cities for Halloween in 2024, identifying which cities provide the most exciting yet safe conditions for the holiday. WalletHub compared the 100 largest U.S. cities across 20 key metrics. They range from costume stores per capita to the crime rate to the share of potential trick-or-treat stops. New York, NY snagged first place with Jersey City, NJ in second place and Newark, NJ in 11th place.
Milk + Cream Cereal Bar Closing Jersey City Location

Downtown Jersey City is losing a beloved sweet shop. On Thursday, October 24th, Milk + Cream Cereal Bar announced the permanent closure of its Newark Avenue location, with this weekend being its last. The shop first opened in 2020 and grew popular in town for its decadent selection of cereal-stacked ice creams, milkshakes, and pints. Meat Products Sent to Over 20 Jersey City Schools Recalled Over Listeria Concerns
Meat and poultry products recalled due to potential listeria contamination were shipped to over a dozen Jersey City district schools. Per Patch Jersey City, the Superintendent of Schools, Norma Fernandez, said the distributing company picked up all the recalled items from all identified schools early on October 15th. In New Jersey, recalled items were also sold at stores including Walmart, Sam’s Club, Aldi, and Trader Joe’s. No illnesses or adverse reactions have been reported so far, according to the USDA.
Jersey City’s Kool + the Gang Inducted into Rock + Roll Hall of Fame
In 1964, legendary R&B band Kool + the Gang brought the party and the funk to the nation from Jersey City. The band’s newest album, People Just Wanna Have Fun, was released on July 14th, 2023, and features founding Jersey City members Robert “Kool” Bell and George “Funky” Brown. Now, the band has joined other music legends in the Rock + Roll Hall of Fame as a member of the 2024 inductee class. Click here for more.
Jersey City Celebrates 10 Years of Youth Mural Arts Program
Mayor Steven Fulop, the Office of Cultural Affairs, and the Department of Recreation and Youth Development alongside Jersey City artists and arts community celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Jersey City Youth Mural Arts Program. Per a City of Jersey City press release, to mark the 10-year milestone, a special event will feature the opening of a gallery art exhibition and premiere screening of the short documentary ARTISTS THAT INSPIRE FUTURE GENERATIONS, directed by artist Duda Penteado. The celebration will take place on October 24th at JC WALLS, located at 90 Forrest Street in Jersey City.
DRIFT Restaurant + Bar to Open Soon in Weehawken’s Lincoln Harbor

DRIFT Restaurant + Bar will soon be the latest addition to the Lincoln Harbor area of Weehawken — which we first reported on in January 2024. Formerly occupied by Houlihan’s, the 17,000-square-foot space has been vacant since 2019. DRIFT is the latest venture from restauranteur Jeremy Casilli, who also owns Hudson + Co at 3 Second Street in Jersey City, Pier 115 at 115 River Road in Edgewater, as well as two New York restaurants. Jersey City Public Safety Dispatcher Charged in Intentional Hit-and-Run
A Jersey City woman employed as a public safety dispatcher has been charged with intentionally hitting a man with her SUV and then driving away. Per the Jersey City Times, Kalimah Toon, 37, who is employed as a public safety dispatcher in Jersey City, allegedly intentionally struck the man with her car in the area of Route 440 and 22nd Street in Bayonne at approximately 12:20AM on October 13th. Kalimah then drove away. The incident followed an altercation on the shoulder of Route 440. Kalimah was arrested on October 17th at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Secaucus and taken to the Hudson County Correctional Facility pending her first court appearance. The 34-year-old Bayonne man was taken to Jersey City Medical Center suffering from life-threatening injuries. He remains there in critical condition.
Hoboken House Tour Hosted by Hoboken Historical Museum Returns for 2024

14-Year-Old Charged in Fatal Jersey City Shooting
A 14-year-old youth has been charged in a fatal shooting on October 11th in Greenville. Per the Jersey City Times, the young Jersey City man was arrested on October 21st on Bergen Avenue. He is charged as a juvenile with murder and two counts of weapons possession. Due to his age, all other information is being kept confidential. Police responded to a report of gunshots in the area of Garfield Avenue and Brown Place on October 11th and found the 19-year-old victim, Kashyne Grant, with a bullet wound to the upper body. Grant was taken to Jersey City Medical Center, where he died three days later.
DOMODOMO to Open a Second Location in Jersey City

DOMODOMO, the Japanese restaurant on the ground floor of the Urby apartment building in downtown Jersey City is opening a second location in Journal Square. A source close to the project shared with The Hoboken Girl team that the restaurant will have a cafe concept and will open at the Journal Square Urby in early 2025.
Palisades Cliffs Protection Alliance Sues City of Hoboken Over Western Edge Settlements
The fallout from the partial settlements for the Western Edge project approved by the Hoboken City Council continues as a nonprofit tied to Union City is now challenging the decision in court. Per the Hudson County View, the Palisades Cliffs Protection Alliance, Inc. filed a 24-count lawsuit against the City of Hoboken, the City Council, the planning board, Mayor Ravi Bhalla, and others, in Hudson County Superior Court on October 21st alleging “enormous quantitative changes” that include 600 additional units, 1,301 total, with an estimated added value of $48 million.

From The Ghost of Uncle Joe’s at Harismus Cemetery to the annual Hoboken Ragamuffin Parade, Hoboken and Jersey City host so many fun and exciting events during the Halloween season each year. Hoboken’s Dual Language School, HoLa, Celebrates 13 Perfect Scores on Statewide Testing
HoLa, a Hoboken Dual Language Charter School is celebrating 13 perfect scores on the New Jersey Student Learning Assessments. Per the Hudson County View, 11 scored perfectly in English Language Arts (ELA), while two scored perfectly in Math. HoLa’s proficiency rates are on average 40 percentage points higher than the New Jersey state average in ELA, and 38 percentage points higher than the New Jersey state average in Math.

Four Women Charged With Assault Over Fight in Hoboken
On October 6th, at approximately 3AM, Hoboken Police responded to the area of Newark and Hudson streets on a report of four people fighting. Per Patch Hoboken, Nicole Delhoyo, 22, of Hasbrouck Heights, Kayla Dupoux, 23, of Totowa, and Alexa Stanulis, 24, of Staten Island were charged with simple assault, and Nicole Defranco, 25, of Staten Island was charged with aggravated assault on law enforcement. All four were taken to Hoboken Police Headquarters, processed, and released with summonses.
Labor Union 32BJ SEIU Urges Hoboken Residents to Vote Down Rent Control Referendum

Labor union 32BJ SEIU is urging Hoboken residents to vote down the rent control referendum that will be on the November 5th ballot, asserting that it “guts rent control.” Per the Hudson County View, the union has endorsed Mayor Ravi Bhalla and his council candidates including 5th Ward Councilman, as well as Council members-at-Large Emily Jabbour and Joe Quintero in the past, all of whom have come out against the ballot question. If approved, landlords can raise rents to market rate after any vacancy as long as they pay $2,500/unit, which will go into Hoboken’s Affordable Housing Trust Fund.
More Hoboken Parking Rate Increases Coming: Garages, Lots, + Visitor Passes
On Wednesday, October 23rd, the City of Hoboken announced a pretty big change coming to town: the elimination of free Sunday parking on Washington Street, which is set to take effect on November 17th. As it turns out, a closer look at the City Council meeting notes from September 4th — when this ordinance was passed — revealed other imminent changes to Hoboken’s parking situation, including rate increases for municipal garages and lots, as well as changes to visitor parking passes and permits for non-Hoboken registered vehicles. Jersey City Moms Host Book + Supply Drive for PS #41

Jersey City Moms recently learned that PS #41, a Jersey City public elementary school, hasn’t had a proper library in years and has barely any shelves or books for students. This school is the educational home to hundreds of students from grades K through 8. A fundraiser was created to help the school and as of October 24th, the drive went viral. The library is now funded and is being renovated. Jersey City Moms shared in an Instagram post that it will continue to collect books and distribute them to underserved free libraries around town. Book donations can be dropped off at Jam Cakery Events, 326 5th Street in Jersey City from 10AM-5PM.
Youth Program Creates a Multi-Building Mural in Jersey City
The Jersey City Youth Mural program created the “Marion Gardens-Building Strong Communities” mural in Jersey City. Per News 12, the artists painted the mural, which spans multiple buildings, and showcases themes of housing authority history, healthy eating, and the joy of a child’s imagination. This is the eighth year of the program.
Artists’ Studio Tour to Close Out Hoboken Art Month on 11/3
This month, special arts events have taken place throughout Hoboken. It’s all a part of Hoboken Art Month, a five-week celebration of Hoboken’s arts and cultural heritage presented by the City of Hoboken and the Hoboken Business Alliance. Residents have been participating in workshops, attending events, and visiting artists’ studios. The last event of Hoboken Art Month — the Artists’ Studio Tour — was recently announced and locals can enjoy a free, self-guided art walking tour on Sunday, November 3rd. Click here for more.
Hoboken to Consider New 13-Story Development at Stevens Institute of Technology
Hoboken officials will soon hear a proposal to modernize Stevens Institute of Technology’s historic campus. Per Jersey Digs, early next month, steps could be taken to revamp the site of Davis Hall at Hoboken’s only higher education campus. The property, located along the eastern edge of the campus on Castle Point, consists of a four-story brick building that houses students. An article from The Stute, the campus newspaper for Stevens, says that the institute hopes to have the new Davis Hall completed by 2032.
Public Art Installation Coming to Maxwell Place Waterfront Park
Maxwell Place Waterfront Park has been selected by the City of Hoboken for an exciting project of a short-term public art installation, starting at the end of October 2024 through the end of June 2025. The installation will not impact public access to the waterfront and will not impede viewsheds. Per a message from Maxwell Place Condominiums, the art is interactive and kid-friendly. The art comes from Brooklyn-based artist CHIAOZZA and is described as “Charm Harbour.”
Hudson County Agency Cites Controversial Bayonne Scrapyard for Air Pollution
A Bayonne scrapyard that has racked up numerous complaints from neighbors on the southern end of the city has been cited for violating Hudson Regional Health Commission’s air pollution control code related to emissions of dust. Per NJ.com, the violation is the third to come to light recently against the controversial company European Metal Recycling, or EMR, which moved this operation from an industrial area of Newark to the Duraport Marine and Rail Terminal property at the foot of Second Street in April 2023.

HG reached out to the Apollo team, and while a location is still being kept under wraps at this time, the team shared that they will provide more information as it becomes available.
