It’s an opportunity to learn more about the history of Hoboken while taking in beautifully restored interiors and period furnishings. About The Tour

Guests on the self-guided tour will have the opportunity to visit up to 10 homes this fall. Per the Hoboken Historical Museum’s website, people will tour a historical brownstone with a rich history linked to Frank Sinatra himself. Some stops include a gorgeous loft in the Wonder Lofts (home to an interior designer), a historic property located at 732 Hudson Street, and the office of a longtime Hoboken-based architect, MHS Architecture, at 1225 Willow Avenue.

Previous tours included stopping in an art-filled restored Victorian on Hudson Street, a big Shipyard condo with amazing views of New York City, and a visit to the Yankee Ferry boat. “Each home on the tour offers a distinct charm and story, showcasing a variety of architectural styles that highlight the city’s diverse heritage,” the museum shared online.

While it is fascinating to wander through different homes in Hoboken to learn about the history of the Mile Square City, it’s important to remember the tour raises money for the Hoboken Historical Museum and its mission to share and preserve the city’s great history.

It’s one of the museum’s longest-running fundraisers, but the COVID-19 pandemic forced the tour to become virtual in recent years. A museum spokesperson told Patch that part of their inspiration for bringing the in-person tours back came from Hoboken residents suggesting bringing it back.

What To Expect

Tickets are available online through the website here. Museum member and early bird tickets are priced at $40 apiece until 6PM on Saturday, October 26th. The price increases to $50 the day of the tour, with the exception of museum members, in which they will still be priced at $40. Ticket holders will be wristbanded and given a program with a map of the homes that also have a description of the home highlighting key features. Participants should expect to walk a lot, and since high heels are prohibited at the request of some homeowners, they should wear appropriate footwear.

The tour will start at the Hoboken Historical Museum at 1301 Hudson Street on Sunday, October 27th at 10AM and will run until 4PM. Ticket-holders will receive a booklet with a map and a little description of each home’s most interesting features. The tours will not only focus on the history of the homes but also the story behind the former residents. The museum suggests the tour will take between two to three hours to visit all homes.
