Looking for a few books to update your end-of-year reading list? In Hoboken and Jersey City, authors were in full force and wrote up a storm this year. If you’re looking to read “local” and support some locally-written books and residents in the area who are authors, then you’re in luck. We’ve rounded up a fun list Hoboken and Jersey City authors who have written books about a variety of topics. From a Baked by Melissa Cookbook {yes, she’s a Hoboken local} to a Thriller political novel, there’s a wide variety of unique books to choose from, all created locally. Here’s our 2017 list:

Cakes by Melissa: Life is What You Bake It, Melissa Ben-Ishay

Melissa Ben-Ishay is a mom, a baker, Hoboken local — and, of course, the founder of Baked by Melissa, the New York City-based brand famous for its signature, bite-size cupcakes and treats. Passionate about baking since childhood and with the idea that people should be able to taste more flavors without a post-dessert guilt trip {thank you, Melissa!}, she decided to do what she loved and launched Baked by Melissa in 2008. Melissa’s new cookbook has many yummy recipes for you to devour this fall!

Dollars and Sense, Dan Ariely and Jeff Kreisler

We all love our Hudson County area dearly, but know how pricey it can be. Dollars and Sense delves into the ways we think {and misthink} about money, and the ways that we can spend our money more wisely — all with a hysterical sense of humor thrown into the mix. Jeff Kreisler is a Hoboken resident, bestselling author, and award-winning comedian and Dan Ariely is a very well-known behavioral economist who also wrote Predictably Irrational. Combining science with humor, the two have teamed up to make this a perfect read for the always costly holiday season.

Clean Cocktails comes to you from two holistic health coaches, Beth Ritter Nydick and Tara Roscioli {a former Hoboken resident}. This book will bring tons of great cocktail recipes using only low-calorie spirits, fresh juices, natural sweeteners, and anti-inflammatory spices. Beth Ritter Nydick has appeared as a health expert on The Chew and The Dr. Oz Show and currently lives in Livingston, NJ.
