What started as a popular stand at the farmers market in 2019 by Hoboken locals, Alfalfa has now become a go-to for salads, wraps, and of course, decadent doughnuts. Now, the hometown fave located at 1110 Washington Street, in the former Schnackenberg location, will not only start offering gluten-free doughnuts but all doughnuts will be exclusively gluten-free.
After years of requests for GF doughnuts and recipe testing – the team was able to deliver something special to customers, keeping them at the forefront of their decision-making.
“At Alfalfa, we believe joy is found in the pursuit of balance. Our new doughnuts will strike this chord, as they are both delicious and guilt-free! Over the last few months, we have been tirelessly working to take our doughnuts to the next level and we believe that these new homemade treats will help you enjoy your Alfalfa experience even more. By using alternative flours, we’ve created a gluten-free doughnut that’s suitable for those seeking a lower-carb diet, such as keto, or simply looking to live a more balanced lifestyle,” the team stated.
The Alfalfa team exclusively shared with Hoboken Girl that there will be a range of seven doughnuts that patrons can choose from, baked fresh on-site every day. “This is a project we’ve always wanted to tackle and it’s exciting to see it begin to come to life,” says Andrew Arrospide, co-owner of Alfalfa.
“The gluten-free doughnuts will be prepared fresh daily by our in-house baking team. We want to thank Meaghan and our baking team for their relentless work in preparing for this launch. As for our yeast-raised doughnuts – we will be discontinuing them, and while we are sad to see them go, we’re thrilled to share with you our vision for the new Alfalfa doughnuts.”

More the just a “salad spot,” the restaurant serves up locally roasted fair trade coffee, high-quality salads, Southern California-inspired breakfast burritos, and creative doughnuts – now all GF, furthering its mission of being a healthy alternative in town.

To no surprise, Alfalfa opened a second location and made its West Coast debut in none other than Santa Monica California on February 13th, 2021. The same IG-worthy boho-vintage-chic vibes can be expected at the second location – making it a perfect addition to the Santa Monica aesthetic.
Patrons can shop the new line of gluten-free doughnuts on January 24th. While all seven flavors will be made fresh daily, once the day’s batch is gone, that’s it. Pre-orders can be placed directly with the shop with a minimum of 48 hours’ notice.
