A federal investigation into an alleged assassination plot tied to a New York City-based activist has brought attention to a location much closer to home: Hoboken. Last night, our DMs were flooded with photos and concerns about the presence FBI agents and Joint Terrorism Task Force activity in Hoboken.
According to reporting by The New York Times, authorities uncovered what they described as a serious and targeted plot involving Nerdeen Kiswani, a New York–based activist known for organizing protests and advocacy work. Kiswani is a Palestinian-American organizer and founder of the group Within Our Lifetime, which is active across New York City.
While the broader case centers on activity in New York, investigators identified Hoboken as a key geographic element in the alleged plan to target Kiswani, with the suspect being apprehended at Willow Terrace.
What Authorities Say
Federal officials allege that an individual had been planning a violent attack targeting Kiswani. The plot, which authorities say was disrupted before it could be carried out, involved surveillance and preparation that raised significant concern among investigators.
Law enforcement agencies treated the situation as credible and serious, ultimately intervening before any harm occurred. The case is now moving through the legal system. Though much of the activity tied to the case occurred in New York City, Hoboken reportedly appeared in connection with the suspect’s movements and planning.
The suspect was apprehended in Hoboken, on Willow Terrace, late Thursday night.
At the same time, officials emphasize that the situation was contained and that there is no ongoing threat to the public.
This is a developing story, we will share more updates as they become available.
Per a criminal complaint filed with the US Department of Justice, a law enforcement officer alleged that Alexander Heifler was involved with unlawful possession of firearms and unlawful manufacture of firearms. The complaint alleged that Alexander Heifler was involved with an undercover officer to plot an attack against a specific victim.
A LinkedIn profile with the name Alexander Heifler appears to match the defendant’s identity, making him a 2022 graduate of Stevens Institute.
A press release from the US Attorney’s Office said, “As alleged in a criminal complaint, a Hudson County man has been charged in connection with a plot to construct and use improvised incendiary devices targeting another individual’s residence. This is an ongoing investigation. There is no current threat to the community. We thank our law enforcement partners for their work in identifying and removing this potential threat to the citizens of New Jersey.”
