When Caroline Manzo first told the world she shaves her face on national television, viewers went crazy. She boasted about the exfoliation benefits and how it is a secret way to maintain gorgeous, youthful skin. Turns out, Caroline was on to something way before the “face shaving” craze surfaced. We now know this process as dermaplaning, a simple technique that uses a delicate razor to gently slough off dead skin and peach fuzz hair from the face. Our team sat down with a few local spas that offer such services to discuss the benefits, process, pricing, and even tried a few treatments out. Read on to learn all about some local spots in Hoboken and Jersey City where dermaplaning is available.

Attain Medspa {720 Monroe Street, Hoboken}

This newer spa is located conveniently in the Monroe Center and offers a specific treatment menu, including dermaplaning. This service can be paired with a facial {$175} or done as a solo process {$75}. It is highly recommended to combine services as it will provide added benefits; trust us on this one, it does. The facial begins with a gentle cleanse and exfoliation. After, the skin is treated to this service, getting rid of unwanted fuzz and dead skin. Owner Lauren and Esthetician Angelina advised treating the face every two to four weeks. The glow is immediate and makeup applies smoothly and flawlessly. We paired it with a Jet Peel and High-Frequency facial and loved the results.

Downtown Medspa {115 Christopher Columbus Drive, Jersey City}

Tsujita

A one-stop-shop for all things beauty, this downtown Jersey City haven also provides dermaplaning services right in the office. Marietta, the owner, stresses the importance of exfoliation, specifically with this method. It is a quick yet effective treatment taking around 45 minutes to complete. It not only removes dead skin and peach fuzz but also allows serums and products to absorb better into the skin. It also rids the face of soft facial hair, which could trap dirt and oils, leading to pimples. There is absolutely no recovery or downtime after this procedure and it is recommended to space out treatments between two to four weeks apart.

EC Beauty Studio {80 River Street, Hoboken}

ec beauty hoboken

Winner of best facial in Hoboken over five years in a row, EC Beauty Studio also offers dermaplaning treatments. The process of dermaplaning at EC Beauty Studio involves using a thin, surgical blade to remove dead skin and peach fuzz from the face. While most people fear that their hair will grow back thicker, darker, or more coarse, they promise that it does not. The estheticians recommend returning for treatment every four to six weeks. The procedure can be done on its own, using an extra enzyme exfoliant for $85 in about 25 minutes or can be combined with a 60-minute facial and would include extractions, exfoliation, mask, and serum for $200. They proudly use PCA Skin products, which have become increasingly popular in the skincare world and boast that their dermaplaning services are safe for pregnant women, as well.

Paris Spa loves dermaplaning and highly recommends doing so to rid the skin of unwanted peach fuzz and layers of dead skin that prevent the skin from glowing as it should. At Paris Spa, it is offered with a facial, using only Biologique Recherche, a French brand well-known by celebs and used in only the most luxurious of spas. The facial includes cleansing, toning, extractions, and a mask as well as the actual procedure itself. This 60-minute service helps to stimulate collagen production and target fine lines and blemishes and costs $135.
