Jersey City is full of excellent coffee shops — from bwè kafe on River Drive to Dream Vista on York Street. Now, you can add another one to that list, because there is a new coffee spot in the lobby of the Hudson House lofts. Almost Home is a coffee cart co-owned by entrepreneur Rob Doran and former NY Jet and current Miami Dolphins wide receiver Braxton Berrios, and just had its official opening event today, March 29th. Read on for what we know about Almost Home and its following in Monmouth County, as well as the new restaurant the team is planning to open next year.
About Almost Home Coffee Cart
Almost Home Coffee Cart is located in the lobby of Hudson House Lofts at 315 15th Street in Jersey City. The cart is open from 7AM-3PM Monday through Friday and 8AM-3PM on Saturdays and Sundays to serve up breakfast and lunch items. The spot is dog-friendly and serves pup cups, and also has free Wi-Fi. Almost all of the food here is locally sourced, and everything is homemade — including the bread and bakery items.

Partners Rob Doran and current NFL wide receiver Braxton Berrios (who is also a former New York Jet) both played football in Miami and are looking to bring Cuban coffee as well as a variety of Cuban-inspired quick-to-go items to Almost Home, in addition to more lobbies in the future. Some of the food items to two plan to serve in the afternoon include empanadas and croquettes.

Rob told The Hoboken Girl that the duo knows Jersey City already has an amazing coffee scene, and they want to add to that by offering convenience and comfort along with homemade pastries. With a coffee cart, that is easy to do, as the cart fits in unused spaces in building lobbies and creates more amenities. Rob elaborated by saying that people are moving away from brands like Starbucks, and are looking for more niche coffee brands like Almost Home.
The New Restaurant + Almost Home’s Background in NJ
The new restaurant coming from the Almost Home team will be at the Emerson Lofts, located at 259 Coles Street in Jersey City. Rob mentioned that they are looking to open the spot, which is called Almost Home General, in about a year.
Although this is the team’s first venture into Hudson County, this is not the first Almost Home location coming to New Jersey. The brand has a massive following in Monmouth County down the shore, where they already have two other locations. The Almost Home General coming to JC will be the second one to open — the other location on Sunnyside Road in Lincroft opened about two years ago. There is also an Almost Home Coffee shop located on Ocean Avenue in Sea Bright.
