Bleu Coffee, which originally planted roots in the lobby of a Jersey City apartment building back in 2016, has officially opened a second location in the heart of the Powerhouse Arts District this month. The new spot is located at 175 2nd Street, occupying the former Busy Bee Organics post, and will serve hot + cold drinks and freshly baked pastries with two floors of seating. Bleu Coffee was started by Kevin O’Gilvie, the son of two immigrant parents from Kingston, Jamaica. His passion for coffee and supporting local businesses began at a young age during annual summer visits back to his parent’s hometown. Kevin would always find himself returning with suitcases filled with coffee for family and friends in the States, which led him to the concept of Bleu Coffee.

In 2016, after many trips back and forth bringing Jamaica Blue Mountain coffee beans back, he decided to change his business model. He partnered with local farms and roasters in Jamaica to import these highly coveted green beans to the states to roast them locally, ensuring freshness and quality. Kevin’s mission to bring this piece of his heritage to Jersey City eventually evolved into a unique coffee experience — “curating the highest quality farm-to-cup experience from the most sought-after coffee regions in the world and giving back to the lands and community that provide the fertile grounds that are home to our coffee cherries.”
On top of that, a portion of Blue Coffee proceeds is donated back to the Jamaica Blue Mountains community through the Blue Mountain Project, which facilities international relationships that improve the region’s health, education, and economy.

This specialty coffee shop sells single-origin, roasted-to-order coffee, delivering only the highest quality coffee to Jersey City locals. The new location features a menu filled with traditional and seasonal brews and freshly baked goods. Whether craving a hot or cold drink, Bleu Coffee has something on the menu for everyone including cold brew, lattes, macchiatos, and espresso drinks, among others. It also has a selection of roasted beans for purchase.

Bleu Coffee’s newest spot is located at 175 2nd Street and continues to operate out of the lobby of The Beacon, 65 Beacon Way in Jersey City. Both cafes are open daily from 7AM to 5PM.
