Black Bear Hoboken’s New {Delicious} Menu Has Debuted

Bar food and drink is easy to come by in Hoboken, with tons of establishments lining Washington Street and beyond. But when looking for elevated bar food, the pickins are a bit slimmer. To help that ratio, Black Bear has recently thrown its hat into the ring, elevating its new menu and offering a wider variety of menu items to please a variety of palates. The HG Team was lucky enough to get to taste test some of their new menu items — see below for a peek at some of the delicious new additions to Black Bear’s menu that debuted this fall:

While most of Black Bear is go big or go home-style {with their insane amount of TVs}, the new menu has a different twist: small bites. No, it doesn’t mean they’re skimping on appetizer samplings, it just means the portions are bite-sized and very Instagram-worthy. Case-in-point:

These avocado toasts {a trifecta if you will} and shrimp tacos = FTW. These bad boys are just one of the new appetizer items on the menu, in addition to the sliders with sweet potato fries that we {not-so-hastily} tried. And if you know how you like your sweet potato fries, then you’ll like these. The sweet potatoes were dipped in the fryer just enough so that they’re crispy on the outside but soft on the inside — something that shouldn’t be hard to do, but alas, many spots don’t get this right. Not at Black Bear. Fried to perfection. And vegans, it’s time to take back happy hour food: Black Bear also added buffalo cauliflower to its offerings, which adds to the variety. They also have a Portobello “Burger” served with roasted peppers, provolone {hold that if you’re vegan}, pesto, and balsamic drizzle

While appetizers are great and all, the real menu upgrades at Black Bear are actually even more expansive in the main courses and entrees area. Enter: Grilled Flat Iron Steak.

There’s also Seared Tuna {corn succotash + spiced red pepper sauce} and Rigatoni {with roasted grape tomato + sweet sausage} that are must-tries. As for sides, Waffle Fries and Sweet Potato Fries are go-tos, but the Onion Rings are a fried necessity if you’re going all out. And if you’re on a health kick, asparagus is also an option {+ a yummy one, if we might add}.

The only thing missing from this is drinks. And Black Bear definitely makes it easy to eat and drink to your heart’s content any day of the week. Happy hour is from 4:00PM-8:00PM Monday through Friday with $3 domestic drafts, $2 off imported drafts, $5 well drinks, and $5 house wines.

All in all, we’re thrilled about the upgrades to the menu. It’s now a destination to take mom + dad, friends, or any other family in town that want to enjoy a yummy meal + the game {whichever game that may be – too many TVs to choose from!}.
