Crazy Cues, a new billiards hall, has officially opened in Jersey City. Located at 872 Bergen Avenue, Crazy Cues is a gaming hall where locals and visitors can come together to play pool or ping pong. What sets this new billiards soon-to-be hotspot apart from others, according to the owners, is the lounge-like vibe. Read on to learn more about Crazy Cues in Jersey City, New Jersey.

Crazy Cues Takeover

The idea of opening a pool hall in Jersey City came about when the owners — Pankaj Sharma, Parul Mishra, Mohammad Jafar, and Asfia Jafar — were looking for a place to hang out and play pool. “In the evenings we were planning, ‘Okay, what should we do for fun?’ And there’s nothing around in this neighborhood for any recreational activity. So we used to go far to places to just have some social time and hang out with friends,” Pankaj told The Hoboken Girl.

“We were playing pool and we just struck up a conversation like, ‘Okay, how about we just open a pool place in our neighborhood and not just primarily a pool place, but a place where people can socially hang out, come together, have some fun times and just enjoy overall.’” he said.

The initial conversation turned into a long-term goal and new business affair. Upon stumbling across the location at 872 Bergen Avenue, within walking distance from Journal Square’s PATH station, the team put forward the design concepts and applied for permits to get the pool hall up and running as soon as possible.

The team posted on its Instagram just days prior to the grand opening: “We have learned so much during the process from being our own contractor for things that needed to be done. This has been such an awesome and sometimes frustrating experience. We are finally at the finish line.

“All the inspections are passed, and now it’s time to have Crazy Fun playing some pool, snooker, ping pong and more with music and a nice ambiance. Our vision is to provide an exceptional playing experience on top quality equipment that ensures every game is memorable and people have fun socializing at our place. So come out and help celebrate our grand opening!”

After two years of “working out issues,” Crazy Cues officially celebrated its grand opening on August 12th, 2024. Mayor Steven Fulop was in attendance and the entire day was free for everyone to come and experience the space.

What’s Inside

Pankaj, a Jersey City resident and full-time IT professional, told HG that he and his friends-turned-business partners wanted to provide people in Jersey City, especially the Journal Square area, the opportunity to come and enjoy a place where they can have fun and socialize.

“We tried to make this place super, super nice,” he said, noting it has more of an “upscale” touch to it. “The vibe is, I would say cool and fun and more like lounge-ish because we have a lot of sitting space and we have a great music system and we have a jukebox. People can play their own music.”

Visitors arrive at the venue by walking down a decked-out graffiti alley — painted by the owners themselves. The pool hall is located in the basement of the building, and there are modernized lighting fixtures, art pieces throughout, leather couches, and lots of space to hang out.

Crazy Cues features eight professional-grade nine-foot Brunswick Golden Crown VI tables, one ping pong table, and one 12-foot Rasson Snooker table, which Pankaj says is the “only one” in New Jersey.

At the moment, Crazy Cues is BYOB. The owners are hoping a year down the line to obtain a liquor permit to sell beer and alcohol.

Once we get the health inspection passed, we will start selling packaged food and some hot food. The first phase would be packaged food only. We will have this as food options and then in a few weeks we are working with nearby vendors to come. We are going to come up with our own menu and we’ll have people who can order from us and we’ll get them here,” Pankaj said.

Check Out Crazy Cues

Within a week of opening Crazy Cues has already drawn a crowd, with professional pool players coming in to play and customers from Brooklyn. The owner explained, “The response has been good so far…Everybody loves the ambience for sure. They’re really happy with the way we have set up the layout and how it looks. And everyone who walks in is stunned.”

Pankaj continued, “We have customers who are already returning, coming back and enjoying people who are really into the game because all the tables that we have are professional grade tournament tables that are used in tournaments.”

Crazy Cues is open to everyone including families and groups of friends, and both reservations and walk-ins are welcome. Parties can even reserve the pool hall for private events or birthday parties.
