Every year around this time, locals are always waiting to hear the news on whether or not the infamous St. Patrick’s Day LepreCon Crawl is happening in Hoboken. We’re here to deliver the news that it is, in fact, happening this year — according to its organizers.
In years past, an annual St. Patrick’s Day parade was organized but was canceled a few years ago due to the large crowds it brought in. Out of that, this annual crawl emerged.
Last year, due to pandemic safety concerns, the annual crawl had been canceled but crawlers may recall a heavier police presence in town as Chief Ferrante of the Hoboken Police Department decided to take extra precautions for the holiday. He had increased the police presence to monitor potential independent crawlers.
He said in a statement last year, “Buying of tickets for the event has been disabled for some time. On this link, if you try to go to the link for the VIP Pass, you cannot get into it. Because the first Saturday in March has been a traditional event day in Hoboken for close to 30 years, I have added an extra 36 officers to the day and night’s deployment. There are no indications of a large-scale event needing that many officers.”
Mayor Bhalla added, “The cancellation of LepreCon is welcome news given that we are still in the middle of a global health crisis. I thank the many business owners who have been in regular contact with my office and have refused to participate in this unsanctioned event.”
Though the Laprecon Crawl was canceled last year, Santacon took place on December 18th.
The LepreCon Crawl is a privately organized event. Pubcrawls.com (the organizer of the event) posted not one but several events taking place next month. The “Hoboken St Patricks Day” is taking place on March 5th, the “Luck of the Irish St Patty’s Pub Crawl Hoboken” is taking place on March 12th, the “Official St Patrick’s Day Pub Crawl Hoboken” is taking place on March 17th, “Hoboken St Patty’s Shamrock Stroll Crawl” is taking place on March 19th. For the March 5th crawl, the Eventbrite description says “This year, the “All Access Pass” is the only package you’ll need to enjoy the full day in excitement.” Participating bars include Texas Arizona, Tally Ho, The Shannon, Mikie Squared, The Shepherd & The Knucklehead, Grove Station, and more TBA.
