In what seems like a sudden move, local Hoboken pet daycare spot, Camp Bow Wow, has announced its closure. Originally opening in Hoboken as of June of 2021, it had been an uptown Hoboken daycare and overnight center for locals and their pets. Only three short years later, Camp Bow Wow has announced its sudden closure. Camp Bow Wow was a 7300-square-foot space, located at 1414 Grand Street in Hoboken. Below are the details of its closure so far.

An email sent out to Hoboken’s Camp Bow Wow customers on April 29, 2024 at 7:05PM, stated:

Dear Pet Parents,

We regret to inform you that Camp Bow Wow Hoboken is closed permanently as of April 29. We have loved caring for your pups over the years!

Please reach out to hoboken@campbowwow.com with any questions or to request a refund of unused packages.

Sincerely,
Camp Bow Wow Hoboken

We reached out to owner Ken Myers about the sudden closure, but have not received a response for comment. He had previously shared about its opening back in 2021.

Several readers also shared with us via email and DMs that they had brought their dogs to daycare on Monday, April 29th, and nothing seemed awry or alluded to the daycare spot closing permanently that evening. We’ll update as more details unfold, but the closing is a bit elusive, according to customers.

“I sent my dog to daycare there today, and then BOOM, got this email,” a local resident shared with us. “It’s really strange. I wish we got more notice.”

Another noted she was scrambling to find daycare for her dog for a month-long trip she was taking, due to the sudden closure.

It’s also worth noting that corporate franchisor Propelled Brands, backed by Lightbay Capital and Freeman Spogli, who also own My Salon Suite, bought over 1300 of the Camp Bow Wow locations, which was announced on PR News Wire back in February of 2024. The website states, “With the support of Propelled Brands private equity owners, LightBay Capital and Freeman Spogli, the acquisition provides Camp Bow Wow with the platform company’s extensive resources. Propelled Brands has now grown its combined portfolio to over 1,300 locations, and will have a significant role in expanding Camp Bow Wow’s presence and development.”

In case you’re not familiar, Camp Bow Wow is a petcare franchise with dozens of locations that care for dogs “by providing a fun and safe environment for all-day play, socialization, and overnight stays,” shared Camp Bow Wow’s owner, Ken Myers, at the time of its opening.  The Hoboken Camp feature[d] four play yards for teacup, small, medium, and large dogs, 54 spacious cabins including three luxury suites, and a climate-controlled atmosphere.

Ken also shared with The Hoboken Girl about CBW’s opening, “Camp Bow Wow Hoboken is part of a national franchise system that has been operating for 20 years and has more than 180 locations in 42 states and Canada,” says Myers, who said he picked Hoboken for a new franchise because of its development and proximity to New York City, as well as the dog-friendly nature of the community.

“Just walking the communities and seeing all the dogs, there is no doubt that Hoboken, Jersey City, and Weehawken are all fur-kid loving communities,” he said to The Hoboken Girl

Camp Bow Wow Hoboken also partnered with the Liberty Humane Society through their non-profit organization, Bow Wow Buddies Foundation, as well as helped Wise Animal Rescue with some of its transports and fosters.
