On August 6th, Governor Murphy addressed New Jersey regarding his decision on in-school mask mandates for students in kindergarten through 12th grade as well as staff members.

On Friday, August 6th, Murphy will officially announce that he will make it mandatory for students and staff to wear masks during this upcoming school year as the Delta variant continues to be spread.

Originally, he intended on sticking to his plan to not issue the mandatory mask mandate, however, the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommended universal mask-wearing, regardless of vaccination status.

Every county in New Jersey had a high or substantial transmission level, according to the latest Centers for Disease Control and Prevention figures. Under new CDC guidelines, residents in all counties except Warren County should wear face masks indoors regardless of vaccination status, the NY Post reported.
