It seems as if June has brought the long-awaited news of the slow, but steady gradual reopening of the entire state. Restaurants across the state have been allowed to reopen for outdoor dining {find a full guide to Hoboken + JC spots offering alfresco dining options here} as well as other businesses such as beauty salons and barbershops. “Normal” life is starting to resume, though cautiously.

For Hoboken residents, we’ve got good news on the workout front — last month, the City of Hoboken announced an executive order that would allow for socially-distanced outdoor fitness classes to return to the Mile Square this summer. So, in honor of this news, we’ve compiled a list of all the gyms offering alfresco workouts this summer.

The Details

Before we get into it, let’s make one thing clear — this is not fitness in the park. Although reminiscent of the annual event due to its outdoor nature, the outdoor classes this summer will be held by individual fitness studios that have applied to host an outdoor class of up to 15 people with social distancing guidelines {there must be at least six feet of space between each participant at all times}. The classes this year will also cost cashfees for each class will be determined by the fitness studio holding it, so it’s important to contact studios directly and purchase classes.
