Summer is upon us, but the pandemic is still far from over. Many of the traditional Fourth of July festivities, such as the annual Jersey City street festival, concert, and fireworks show, have been canceled this year due to COVID-19, but Independence Day isn’t canceled. In fact, there are still a handful of ways to celebrate safely — that include social distancing. Read on for a comprehensive guide to making Fourth of July memorable this year, no fireworks necessary.
Visit The Lutze

Jersey City’s outdoor Biergarten, the Lutze, is a great place to spend the 4th of July. Located at 3 2nd Street, this local spot offers sweeping views of the NYC skyline, delicious beers + cocktails, and an all-around good time.
Visit Pier 13
The Pier is back this year — but at limited capacity. Locals can still enjoy that view, some drinks, and delicious food truck grub. Table seating is required and seats are first come first serve with a two-hour limit. Walking around, standing, or sitting on the lawn is not permitted.
Host a BBQ with Friends
BBQs and the Fourth of July go hand in hand. A great way to spend the holiday is grilling some traditional, all-American eats. Hamburgers, hot dogs, corn on the cob, pulled pork, potato salad, and baked beans are just a few delicious menu ideas.
Have a Parklet Dinner + Drinks
If grilling isn’t an option or cooking isn’t your thing, House of ‘Que in Hoboken offers the next best thing to a homemade BBQ meal this year. Restaurants have been allowed to expand their outdoor spaces so locals can finally get their restaurant fix. Celebrate the Fourth of July enjoying cocktails and apps from your favorite local restaurant.

Go on a Picnic in Liberty State Park
Pack a lunch, bring a blanket, and bask in the sun at Liberty State Park There’s really no better way to celebrate America than by taking in the breathtaking views of Lady Liberty and the NYC skyline.
Tune Into a Virtual Fireworks Show
Although most firework shows are canceled this year, you can still tune in online at some amazing shows such as Disney Magic Moments or Macy’s Fourth of July Fireworks on NBC. For added effect, turn on the big screen TV, dim the lights, and turn up the volume so it feels close to the real thing. If you want the real thing, the fireworks shows in North Wildwood and Ocean City are currently still on, but be sure to check prior to attending, as cancellations may happen.
Go on a Beach Getaway
While staying local is a fun way to celebrate the holiday, beaches are open and if you haven’t taken advantage yet, the Fourth of July is the perfect opportunity. Beaches only about an hour away from Hudson County include Point Pleasant, Belmar Beach, Asbury Park, and more. Be sure to read on up each individual beaches’ rules and regulations before going, as passes may need to be purchased ahead of time — and fireworks for these areas may still be canceled.
