This Hoboken Bar is One of Our Lunch Favorites

Downtown Hoboken is known mostly for its bar scene (think Saturday day drinkers, Sunday football fans), but what many might not know is that a lot of these bars actually double as lunch spots — and the food is very good. River Street Garage is one of our recent lunch discoveries in that neck of the woods, with a signature item, the RSG Grinder Smashburger. Located at 80 River Street, River Street Garage is one of the only spots in the area with weekend live music, but this summer, during lunch hours, it also has a full lineup of family-friendly (yes, family-friendly!) dishes and activities. About River Street Garage

River Street Garage is part of The Light Group’s family of Hoboken bars, which also includes local favorites like Green Rock Tap + Grill, Texas Arizona, McSwiggan’s Pub, and The Waiting Room. It’s the musical child of the family (literally), known for its live music performances and DJ sets every week.

It’s especially exciting during the summer because there is a wide range of entertainment, and a great outdoor patio with views of the NYC skyline. River Street Garage is a great spot to watch sporting events and has plenty of games of its own, including pool, pong, cornhole, a photo booth, and giant Connect 4 + Jenga (like, very giant).

The Menu

The standout at River Street Garage is the Grinder Smashburger, a massive sandwich with two smashed patties, provolone cheese, and the bar’s homemade grinder mix. Of course, there’s always room for classic bar apps as well (try the fried pickles or honey teriyaki chicken wings, thank us later), and the shareables are a great large group alternative – think massive plates of apps, nachos, or sliders for everyone to share.

Drinks are never dull, either – our recent favorite deal is the Personal Spiked Sun Cruiser Bucket, which is a 32-ounce Sun Cruiser with an extra vodka shot (for only $15, at that!). They are even $12 during some of their happy hours – from 5PM to 10PM on Fridays, 12PM to 5PM on Saturdays, and all day long every Sunday.
