Local indie bookstores are the cornerstone of any community, and for Jersey City, that includes WORD located at 123 Newark Avenue in downtown Jersey City on the Newark Avenue Pedestrian Plaza. However, that won’t be the home of the bookstore for much longer – but fret not bookworms, WORD isn’t leaving Jersey City, just the current storefront. It will be setting up shop a few blocks away.
WORD is a local, independently-owned bookstore in Jersey City that opened in December 2013. It quickly became a go-to for all things literature, as it stocks the latest book releases but more importantly, has always curated a unique selection of books in all genres – ensuring that there is something for everyone. Aside from an amazing collection of books, WORD always has a great selection of stationery, locally-inspired merch, office supplies, and more.

Staying true to its roots, WORD will continue to host community events like book launches, readings, and panels, across all genres at its new location.
The new WORD storefront will be located at 29 McWilliams Place in Hamilton Square, in the space occupied by Jersey City Bicycle Co., which is moving into the newly-built Swift & Co. Building. The move is happening sometime in March. The last day of the Newark Avenue location has not been announced as of yet, nor has an opening date of the new location.
