The rumors have been swirling forever, BUT — it’s finally time. Whole Foods Market in Weehawken, NJ opens its doors to the public at 9:00AM on Friday, July 26th {we’re dancing to the grocery gods as we type this}. The new 32,0000-square-foot store is located at 1400 Waterfront Terrace in The Shops at Lincoln Harbor. Shoppers will be able to sample an assortment of products from local suppliers on opening day and throughout opening weekend {*cough cough* looks like you need to take a sick day from work because you’ve got some snacking to do}. Keep reading to learn all about the official opening of Whole Foods Market in Weehawken.

Offering a selection of over 150 locally-sourced brands, grab-and-go prepared foods, and natural + organic grocery items, all food at Whole Foods Market in Weehawken will meet the company’s rigorous quality standards, which prohibit hydrogenated fats, high-fructose corn syrup, and artificial sweeteners. We got a chance to preview the store this week, and are sharing all the goods you can expect below:

“We’re really excited to welcome the Weehawken community to their new Whole Foods Market,” said Jose Navas, Store Team Leader. “With products from more than 150 local suppliers and its contemporary, bright design, this store was created specifically for this neighborhood.” And you can tell the space is truly catering to the locals — so many amazing finds + ol’ reliables. 

What Makes WFM Weehawken Unique

As with any Whole Foods, there are a variety of products that contribute to the overall awesomeness of the store. But in Weehawken, some extra exciting features of this location include:

  • A fresh produce department with seasonal fruits and vegetables, including selections from over 50 local producers, such as D’Ottavio Farms, Hepworth Farms, and Ark Foods. {Plus these humongous jackfruits, no big deal, evidenced below:}

  • A full-service butcher department featuring in-house made sausages, beef, chicken, lamb, and turkey options from regional suppliers, including Bell & Evans and Simply Grazin, as well as a range of ready-to-cook items, including fresh burgers, kebabs, and marinated meats and poultry.

 

  • A seafood department with unique offerings, such as in-house made salmon burgers, lobster rolls, Star of the Sea jumbo lump crab cakes, and Catsmo smoked salmon.

  • An expansive in-house bakery offering self-serve cookies + cakes, items for special diets, and a selection of goods from area bakeries such as Balthazar Bakery, Abe Muffins, and  By The Way Bakery. They’ll also have Om Sweet Home baked goods {by local vegan and gluten-free baker Dawn Pascale — delivered fresh daily!}. Side note — they also have a wall of Justin’s Peanut Butter items….need we say more?

 

  • A large prepared foods section with a salad bar, hot bar, soup wells, rotisserie chickens, self-serve square style pizza, Kikka sushi, and charcuterie offerings.

  • A full-service coffee bar from Friends of Whole Foods Market partner Café Grumpy featuring nitro cold-brewed coffee on tap, single-origin coffee selections, and seasonal drinks. Café Grumpy also offers a “commuter combo” coffee and pastry pairing during rush hours and a discount for customers who bring their own coffee mugs. Perfect as its right along the ferry terminal and next to the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail stop.

  • A specialty foods section with an extensive selection of cheeses from local suppliers such as Valley Shepherd Creamery, charcuterie offerings from Charlito’s Cocina, and a self-serve fresh pasta bar with offerings from New Jersey-based Severino Pasta Company. {SRSLY, still getting over this fresh pasta feature from our visit. J’amaze.}

  • A beauty and body care department featuring products from various local suppliers, including new soap scents and candles from LUX Naturals, hair products from Bodhi, and accessories from Chavez for Charity. They’ve also got a slew of sage and other essential oils by various brands including Whole Foods. There are so many wonderful natural brands that offer organic and holistic beauty care, and it’s exciting to see them all in one place.

And for the green thumbs, you’re in luck: The store also has a beautiful array of fresh flowers — including snake plants, fiddle leaf plants, sunflowers, and more.

The store’s regular hours will run from 7:00AM – 10:00PM daily, and there is a parking garage with signage for Whole Foods customers. Parking is free for 90 minutes with $10+ purchase. For the opening weekend {July 26th through July 28th} parking is complimentary!
