The warm weather is finally here to stay, which means there are more opportunities to go out in the community and help out. {Plus, we’re fans of any excuse to get outside and enjoy the gorgeous temps.} From Walk-a-Thons and gardening to some of the best block parties in town, June is packed with ways to give back to the Hudson County community and beyond. Read on for a full list of volunteering opportunities in Hoboken + Jersey City this month.

June 1st — Pride Month Kick Off with the HCDO LGBTQ Caucus {122 Willow Avenue, Hoboken}

The Hoboken County Democratic Organization is kicking off Pride Month with Drag Queen Story Hour hosted by the one and only Harmonica Sunbeam. This group is joining the community together to continue the conversation on inclusivity and equality. Visit HCDO’s Facebook page for more information.

June 2019–Party with Purpose Northern Trust Volunteer Opportunity {100 Caven Point Road, Jersey City, NJ}

Party with Purpose is excited to announce a partnership with THE NORTHERN TRUST 2019.  THE NORTHERN TRUST is a PGA TOUR tournament that is located at Liberty National Golf Course in Jersey City, NJ from August 6-11.  Party with Purpose has an opportunity to receive a donation from the PGA TOUR if we can recruit 40+ volunteers.  So we need your help.  As a volunteer, you need to commit to three (3) 6 hour shifts and pay a $87 volunteer fee**! June 1st — Volunteer Gardening {1 Audrey Zapp Drive, Jersey City}

Help beautify one of the largest parks in our area by joining the volunteer gardening program. All groups or indiviuals are welcomed on that day. For those who have never gardened before, no need to worry, experience is not required. If there is interest to volunteer outside of this date, please contact Head Gardener Maria at 201-915-3418.

June 1st — Spring Reorganization Meet and Greet {180 Danforth Avenue, Jersey City}

The Hudson County Young Democrats are gathering to discuss their visions and goals for the next two years. For those looking to get involved with this organization, this is the event to attend. Visit the site for more information on their work.

June 1st — Peloton Kids Foundation Fifth Annual Game Day-Metro NY {1 Marin Boulevard, Jersey City}

Calling all family and friends to gather for this fifth annual day of fun. The event begins at 1:00PM with tickets ranging from $25 to $40. To support the mission of Peleton Kids Foundation of helping children and families, purchase tickets here.

June 1st — 15th Annual 7th Inning Stretch {1400 Clinton Street, Hoboken}

The Mile Square Theatre is back with its signature fundraising event. A full line up of short plays about America’s favorite past time, baseball, will be performed. Tickets include complimentary bites, ice cream, a wine + beer open bar, ballpark hot dog cart, and more. Purchase here.

June 1st — Scandi Block Party {210 9th Street, Jersey City}

The hottest block party in town is here. Gain a unique perspective on what the children of the Scandi School are doing. The organization has teamed up with local food vendors and flea markets to showcase eco-friendly materials. Visit the site here to learn more about the Scandi school.

June 2nd — 2019 Self-Guided Secret Garden Tour {1301 Hudson Street, Hoboken}

This month is starting off with a crowd favorite annual tradition. The tour includes a range of outdoor designs by gardeners and landscapers who have opened their homes to the public. Tickets are $25 with all proceeds going to the Hoboken Historical Museum. Learn about the best gardening secrets from those in the area. Tickets can be found here.

June 4th — Hoboken Shelter Night {300 Bloomfield Street, Hoboken}

Join the Rotary Club of Hoboken as they prepare meals for the homeless in partnership with the Hoboken Shelter. They are calling on all who are able to help serve on this night. Learn more about the Hoboken Shelter here.

June 5th — Pride Fundraiser {128 Christopher Columbus Drive, Jersey City}

Learn more about the work of Hetrick-Martin Institute: New Jersey while also celebrating Pride month. Light food and live entertainment are provided for this free event with a cash bar for happy hour. To register and learn more about this event, visit here.

June 5th — Jersey City Write on Sports, Sports Outing {141 Bright Street, Jersey City}

Test your luck with Jersey City Write on Sports in a chance to win four tickets to see the NJ Devils or a round of golf with Tom Zuppa Jr. All proceeds from this night of auctioning and star-studded hosting will benefit a sports writing summer camp for Jersey City middle school students. June 6th — Hoboken Mom’s Night Out at Northern Soul {700 1st Street, Hoboken}

Northern Soul and Mom’s Demand Action for Gun Sense in America are gathering for a fun night out. Tickets to the fundraiser include a two-hour open bar, light appetizers, and validated parking. The event is open to all, not just moms. Dads, aunt, uncles, cousins, sisters, brothers, and more, come out to support this worthy cause. Tickets are $40 in advance and $50 at the door. June 7th — 12th Annual Walk and Roll-a-Thon {761 Summit Avenue, Jersey City}

St. Joseph’s School for the Blind is hosting its 12th Annual Walk-a-Thon, “Take a Walk for Independence,” to support the path to growth and independence for children with visual impairments in New Jersey. Opportunities for corporate sponsorships, individual donations, or volunteer help are available. The event is free. For more information visit here.

June 7th — 4th Annual VVPA Golf Outing {515 Duncan Avenue, Jersey City}

All who love to golf, join the Van Vorst Park Association for their 4th annual golf outing. Those playing will engage in a challenging nine holes with fun and prizes along the way. For those not into golfing, happy hour, dancing, and games of putt putt are available. Tickets for golfers are available here on Eventbrite.

June 8th — Diversity Stride {1 Audrey Zapp Drive, Jersey City}

The American Council on Diversity is making their steps count with a statewide 5K. Entertainment, dancing, face painting, and more will be had to promote and celebrate those of different races, religions, and cultures. To register, please email DiversityStride@AmericanConferenceOnDiversity.org.

June 8th —  Pride Night Cocktails for a Cause at Six 26 {128 Christopher Columbus Drive, Jersey City}

The NJ LGBT Chamber of Commerce and the Pride Network are working together to kick off pride month, enjoy cocktails, and raise support for local LGBT business owners. Live music and drag show featuring Olivia Lux with special guest Kimmy Sumony will be in the happenings of the night. Tickets can be purchased here on the Pride Network’s site.

June 8th — Go Jersey City 2019 {280 Grove Street, Jersey City}

Go Jersey City is a day of service and fun where residents of Downtown Jersey City, and beyond, go out and serve organizations and parks throughout the city. The day will begin with everyone gathering at the town hall at 10:00AM. Opportunities to sign up for various projects will be available. June 8th — 8th Annual Hoboken Green Fair {499 Willow Avenue, Hoboken}

The City of Hoboken Green Team is gathering the community to introduce more sustainable lifestyle choices, raise awareness regarding environmental issues, and demonstrate how consumers can reduce their impact on the earth. All green businesses and non-profits are invited to join this conversation and day of fun. For any business interested in vending at the Green Fair or interested in attending, check out the site.

June 8th — Gerry Cooney Fight Night Benefit {221 River Street, Hoboken}

The Youth Consultation Services for Children and Families have gathered eight amateur USA Boxing Federation bouts along with host Gerry Cooney and special guest Michael Briese for a special fundraising event. Before the fights, a pre-fixe dinner will be available at Halifax — same location — from 5:00PM-7:00PM. Monies raised from this event will directly benefit the children of YCS. June 8th — Hudson River Loop Walk and World Oceans Day {15 Exchange Place, Jersey City}

Get moving to this free walking event. This year’s BeNatural event is building awareness and celebrating the valuable water resources around the world. All donations gathered from the day will support Big Blue Oceans Clean Up and the Inland Ocean Coalition. For more information on this event and to learn of other ways to get involved, visit here.

June 8th — Hudson City Lions Club Breakfast Fundraiser {701 Route 440 South, Jersey City}

The Hudson City Lions club has served those with specific needs for over 64 years in this area. They have built their goals on servicing the deaf and blind community and beyond with education, public services, health, recreation, and social services. Gather for their breakfast fundraiser to support their work. $10 tickets are sold here.

June 9th — Liberty State Park Take Steps Walk {1 Audrey Zapp Drive, Jersey City}

Take Steps New Jersey and the New Jersey Chapter of the Chron’s and Colitis Foundation are “taking steps” for those who are fighting this disease. By joining together, we can find a way to beat the pain of IBD. All festivities of the day open at 10:00AM with the walk beginning at 11:00AM. June 11th — Rotary Club of Hoboken {205 Washington Street, Hoboken}

It is time for the monthly lunch meeting with the Rotary Club of Hoboken. Lunch will begin at 12:15PM at Black Bear Bar and Grill. Gather to mingle with fellow Rotarians or learn more about the work of this organization.

June 11th — New Jersey Blood Services and Hoboken Police Department {111 River Street, Hoboken}

The New Jersey Blood Services and Hoboken Police Department have joined forces for a blood drive. Opportunities to donate are available all day. To learn more and sign up for a time, click here.

June 13th — Evening Under the Stars with York Street Project {89 York Street, Jersey City}

For the 9th year in a row, one of the best block parties in the area is back. Unlimited food and drink tastings, live music from Jersey Shore cover band Enjoy and a chance to win a dream vacation. All attendees must be over 21 years of age. Early registration for the event is now open here.

June 13th– DJD Friendland Foundation Happy Hour {735 2nd Avenue, New York City}

The Dustin J. and Daniel Friendland Foundation is hosting a happy hour in the city to raise funds for scholarships. This Hudson County based organization supports students who have high levels of academic achievement, extracurricular activities, and are active during their high school career. A $10 happy hour entry fee allows for raffle entries and drink specials. Come join in.

June 14th — CACPR Fundraiser Fiesta {888 Newark Street, Jersey City}

The CACPR is a fully funded art residency program in Puerto Rico. The Fundraiser Fiesta is a celebration of Puerto Rican Arts with music, food, and incredible art. Tickets are on sale now here.

June 15th —  Hudson Price Center’s 2019 LGBTQ+ Prom {161 Newkirk Street, Jersey City}

Hudson Pride Center’s LGBTQ+ Prom is a safe and inclusive space for LGBTQ+ Youth/Young adults to celebrate and embrace themselves in the most unforgettable way possible. Chances to vote on two Royals of the night will be open. The Prom is free and is open to members of the LGBTQ+ community aged 15-22. Registration is required. June 15th — Pre-Father’s Day Scholarship Fundraiser {1 Garfield Avenue, Jersey City}

The Twin Sister Foundation is hosting its annual scholarship fundraiser. Join in the fun of bowling while helping to raise funds for JCPS High School Seniors who will be headed to college this fall. June 15th — Pre-Father’s Day Comedy Show {141 Bright Street, Jersey City}

The Rho Kappa Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. is hosting an evening of laughter and fun. Proceeds made will support the chapter’s scholarship efforts. Tickets can be purchased online here.

June 15th — JC Rucking {788 Garfield Avenue, Jersey City}

JC Rucking will gather at O’Leary’s Publik House for a 10-mile ruck march dedicated to fallen soldiers. For those who can, complimentary beer and completion patch are given to those who carry 15lbs or more. All are welcome to walk and participate, regardless of weight carried. 100% of the proceeds collected will be donated to MA22, a veteran advocacy non-profit organization. Register here.

June 15th — Hoboken Pizza Derby {600 Garden Street, Hoboken}

It is time for the 10th “Almost” Annual Hoboken Pizza Derby. Join the Community Church of Hoboken to rate some of the best pizzas in town while raising funds for this great organization. To learn more about the event and purchase tickets, visit here.

June 15th — Plates for Parks {257 Montgomery Street, Jersey City}

Celebrate the vibrant food scene Jersey City has to offer with a three-course dinner in the park. This month’s guest chef is Colleen Christi Willet — co-owner of Bread & Spoon in Jersey City. Dinners start at 6:00PM sharp with all proceeds benefiting the Jersey City Parks Coalition. Tickets are available here.

June 15th — Friends of LSP’s 5K Run and Fun Run {200 Moris Pesin Drive, Jersey City}

Come join the friends of Liberty State Park for a day of fun and running in honor of Flag Day. Runners will enjoy views of Ellis Island, the Statue of Liberty and the Manhattan Skyline. June 15th–Shoott NJ PRIDE Pop-Up Event {200 Morris Pesin Drive, Jersey City}

Known as “high quality photos without the high price”, Shoott is a chance to have some fun with professional photographers in our area. To support Pride month, Shoott is offering pop-up photoshoot locations around Hudson County. Grab your significant other, your friend, your sibling, your furry friends, or fly solo for a dream shoot. All sessions booked in June with the code PRIDE will receive 20% discount with all proceeds going to The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center in NYC. June 19th — Hudson County CASA Information Session {100 Bloomfield Street, Hoboken}

CASA volunteers have the opportunity to directly impact foster children in the Hudson County area. CASA aids children with medical care, academics, and enrichment activities right in our own backyard. They are in need of volunteers and are ready to share information with those interested. June 20th —  Installation of President and Foundation Fundraiser {502 Washington Boulevard, Jersey City}

The Rotary Club of Jersey City is welcoming a new President. Witness the installation while also helping to raise funds for this worthy organization. June 22nd — Public Safety Appreciation Day {1 Chapel Avenue, Jersey City}

June 27th–Brave Minds Project Skydive for the Brave {55 County Rd 639, Sussex, NJ}

Join one of Hudson County’s newest non-profit organizations Brave Minds Project on a fun-filled day of skydiving. Founder, Alyssa Carfi is celebrating her 10 year brain surgery anniversary by inviting those in the community to join in on this day. Tickets are $185 and can be purchased here.

June 28th —  Serve Dinner at Hoboken Shelter {300 Bloomfield Street, Hoboken}

Redeemer Hoboken is taking their turn this month to serve dinner at the Hoboken Shelter. For those interested in joining this group, come prepared at 6:00PM to serve those in the community.

June 29th — 3rd Annual Dog Days of Summer Festival {333 Grand Street, Jersey City}

Calling all dogs and dog lovers for this event. Join the community for an afternoon of dog-centric vendors, exhibitors, and service providers. Dog adoptions via See Spot Rescued and Second Chance Rescue NYC will be available. Doogie photos both are set up with all proceeds going to See Spot Rescue. The event is free and open to the public. June 29th — Free Consultation Day {35 Journal Square, Suite 827, Jersey City}

The Center for Immigrant Representation is hosting a free consultation day for immigrants and families to learn more about citizenship and petitions. Please call the office at 201-884-2290 to schedule an appointment.

Ongoing Opportunities:

TRUEMentors — Join Jersey Cares in Mentoring & Enrichment in Hoboken every Tuesday from 6:00PM-8:00PM. Volunteers are asked to spend time with, mentor and manage children ages seven to 17 on a weekly basis.

 Hunger Helpers in Hoboken — Join JerseyCare at the Hoboken Shelter every Thursday to serve dinner. Volunteers are asked to dress casually and come excited to serve and engage in conversation with dinner guests. All volunteers must bring one of the following items for donation: garbage bags, coffee, hot/cold cups, paper/plastic plates, toilet paper, napkins, utensils {especially forks} and/or laundry detergent. Volunteers are needed from 11:00AM-3:00PM daily.

Big Brothers Big Sisters — If you have interest in fostering an on-going relationship with a local student, Big Brothers Big Sisters has the perfect opportunity. To start, head to their site to fill out an application before the interview process to ensure that you are a good fit. Time commitment is at least one year.

 America Needs You—Apply to be a 2019 America Needs You {ANY} Mentor Coach today. ANY Mentors are dynamic leaders in their respective fields willing to help first-generation college students through their higher education and early careers. As a Mentor Coach, you attend Saturday Workshops and form a long-term, one-on-one mentoring relationship with a first-generation college student, while becoming part of a vibrant network of industry-diverse professionals. Liberty Humane Society {235 Jersey City Boulevard} — Join the exemplary staff at Liberty Humane Society as an LHS Ambassador. Ambassadors are asked to assist in ensuring the shelter facility is organized, clean, and welcoming as this is imperative for placing animals in forever homes. Deliverance Children’s Ministry {3 Armstrong Avenue, Jersey City} — Deliverance Children’s Ministry is looking for volunteers in various capacities including Activities Coordinator, Social Media Coordinator, Carpenter/Painter, Maintenance/Housekeeping Assistance, Community Beautification Coordinator, and more. DCM was founded out of the desire to develop Leadership and Activism in children and youth. For more information click here.

 Better Tomorrows {471 Pacific Avenue, Jersey City} — ESL tutors are needed at Better Tomorrow. Better Tomorrow is asking for mostly Spanish-Speaking individuals who are looking to improve their English skills to use published curriculum materials to match students’ reading, speaking and writing skills. Young Cosmetologist Program {70 Pamrapo Avenue, Jersey City} — The Young Cosmetologist Program is free and open to all students who have an interest in cosmetology as a career option. Volunteers are needed on Friday evenings from 4:00PM-6:00PM to facilitate tutor sessions and help with homework.

Jewish Institute for Global Awareness {80 Grand Street, Jersey City} — The JIFGA is looking for a volunteer to enhance the organization’s visibility and its ability to get the mission out to the general public. Position involves writing, editing, marketing, and public relations efforts. Material to be produced may include press releases and other marketing collateral. Family Promise of Hudson County {324 Communipaw Avenue, Jersey City} — Family Promise of Hudson County provides temporary homes for Hudson County families experiencing homelessness. Day volunteers are needed from 7:00AM-6:00PM and evening volunteers are needed from 6:00PM-6:00AM. Day tasks include assisting in the office and managing the needs of the families while evening tasks include spending time with the families, cooking or bringing dinner and even sleeping over.  Jersey City + Harsimus Cemetery — Volunteers are needed at the Jersey City + Harsimus Cemetery to assist with grounds beautification. Tasks include pulling weeds, assisting with the ANGELS Garden and caring for the goats on the grounds. Visit the site for more information.

Hoboken Volunteer Ambulance Corp {707 Clinton Street, Hoboken} — As the only all-volunteer ambulance corp in Hudson County, the Hoboken Volunteer Ambulance Corp truly values support from the community. Get involved with this great organization that helps to save lives daily. Check out their site here for more opportunities to volunteer as an EMT or in the administrative office or to donate monetarily.

Liberty Human Society — Every Wednesday, the Liberty Humane Society offers low-cost wellness clinics or pets. Times between 4:00PM-6:00PM can be secured online. Walk-in pets are seen on a first come, first serve basis. Review this list for information on available services.
