There is no longer a need to trek to Brooklyn when Tomahawks Axe Throwing just opened shop {practically} in Hoboken’s backyard. This recreational facility, home of both Jersey City Archery and Tomahawks Axe Throwing, opened in October 2018 and is a unique must-try in the area. Everything you need to know about the space, their BYOB policy, and what to expect, below:

The Facility

The building is an entire block long, meaning: no shortage of street parking and spacious amenities inside — cough, unlike anywhere in Hoboken. Tomahawks Axe Throwing is on the second floor of 7 Sherman Avenue in Jersey City Heights, merely “up the big hill” from downtown Mile Square. Although, only the Jersey City Archery sign is above the door — the warehouse entrance is shared amongst the two businesses.

Inside, there are about 8-10 lanes for Archery — staffed with plenty of necessities as well as branded t-shirts and snacks for sale. Passing through the space is the entrance for Tomahawks, the newest venture, with brand new targets, throwing lanes, couches and even a lounge to hang out.

Pricing

Here’s the kicker: unlike similar businesses that require a $75 crash-course training, Tomahawks is simply a $20-25 per person fee. Whether you’re interested in a private lane {4+ guests} or are coming solo — this business is built to maximize fun, without charging an arm and a leg. Oh, and if you want to rent out the entire space with 50 of your closest friends — they’re open to accommodate that too! From bachelor parties to company events, Tomahawks is ready to fit every group need.

Public & Private Hours

Currently, Tomahawks is open to private groups from Monday-Thursday so during the week is guaranteed to be more peaceful, otherwise, the space is open for walk-ins on Fridays from 3PM-9PM, Saturdays from 10AM-9PM, and Sundays from 12PM-6PM.

Getting There

Now, for the logistics: how to get there. We did take a speedy 8-minute Uber ride to get to their location but the 87 Bus drops off across the street, Citibike has a drop off at Pershing Field nearby, and there is a copious amount of 4-hour street parking — giving visitors various options for travel.

Know Before You Go

  • WEAR CLOSED TOE SHOES. During the winter this is easy, but definitely, don’t come wearing flip flops in the summer months. The unfinished floors and shards of wood chips would make for an unpleasant experience…
  • Celebrating a birthday, engagement, or other special event? Feel free to bring a cake, snacks, and beer/wine to serve —although, super important to note that there is no refrigerator on site.
