How It Started

Jersey City residents and husband and wife duo Joann and John Saitta saw an opportunity and jumped on it. Time was on their side when the storefront at 138 Park Avenue became available and was soon the backdrop for Joann’s longtime passion– to be a stylist. John, a 25+ year fire captain with the Jersey City Fire Department, told HG “This has been her dream but it wasn’t ideal until now. An opportunity arose and she’s great at what she does.”

Prior to OliJon’s opening, Joann spent time in the corporate world up until her breast cancer diagnosis 15 years ago. Years later, after time at home due to several ups and downs and complications with cancer-related treatments, Joann began spending her time volunteering at St. Mary’s Advocates on 536 Garden Street in Hoboken. It was there that she began to build close bonds with the community. She honed in on her fashionable talents to help customers understand the power of a good outfit that makes you look good and feel good, regardless of the price. Joann said, “The one thing that made me happy was styling men and women and seeing the look on their faces when they looked in the mirror.”

Since April 2024, Joann has had to undergo three additional surgeries related to her breast cancer complications which she described as “devastating for a woman” but through it all, she remains excited about her new endeavor with a smile on her face and a fierce level of advocacy.

Joann built close relationships with the customers at St. Mary’s. John. She told HG, “People came to see her for her personality, niche fashion, and style. She puts her heart and soul into other people. She is the only Joann.” The two look forward to joining the Hoboken shopping scene and are excited to let Joann work her magic.

John and Joann hope to donate a portion of the store’s proceeds to help support other women battling and recovering from breast cancer. They both understand first-hand how serious the financial impact of cancer treatment is and want to help people who didn’t have the same resources they did. Their mission is to not only help women with breast cancer heal but make them feel beautiful too.
