The V Spot, a local uptown Hoboken nail spa located at 159 14th Street, has just announced that it’s officially closing after 10 years in business. Owner Vivian Rivera announced the news via email blast on August 2nd, citing the lapse of the building’s lease and her desire to pursue other interests as main reasons for choosing to close the doors. The V Spot has gained recognition from InStyle and has been featured on Bravo, E!, Channel 11, Channel 4, and, of course, local blogs and publications. The nail spa’s last day will be August 26th. Read on for what we know about the closure of The V Spot Nail Spa.

About The V Spot Nail Spa

The V Spot was opened in 2012 by Vivian Rivera after she decided to leave the corporate world in pursuit of something new.

“It seems I do that often,” Vivian mentioned in her email announcing The V Spot’s closure. “I may be considered a serial career changer, as I have had many.”

Despite never having had experience working or being in the beauty industry, Vivian identified a need for a more personal and hospitable nail salon — one where everyone was welcome to truly sit back, relax, and feel taken care of.

As Vivian said, she “built this baby from the ground up,” and The V Spot was born. In its first year alone, The V Spot received recognition from InStyle, winning a spot in the magazine’s Beauty Black Book as a top nail spa in New Jersey. The V Spot has also built up a portfolio of high reviews, been featured on various high-profile channels, and gained a loyal following of customers.

“It makes me happy and fulfilled to know that the experience I wanted for anyone walking through those doors was felt,” Vivian said.

But of course, all good things must come to an end — and for Vivian, the pandemic gave her the necessary reflection time to decide that it was the right moment for a new chapter in her life.

Despite 10 wonderful years in business, Vivian realized over the pandemic that it was time to move on.

“During that time, I realized how much of my energy went into this place. I realized how much time I did not have to enjoy my personal life,” Vivian said in her farewell message. “Isn’t that what it really is all about?”

As a woman of many interests and goals, she realized her beloved nail spa was limiting her. When it came time to renew her lease, she made the decision instead to shut down her spa. In the email, Vivian said that the final day in business will be August 26th.

This was a bittersweet choice for Vivian, and she listed the many things she will miss about her business.

“I have seen engagements, weddings, babies, promotions, breakups, new ventures… We have had many conversations, laughs, drinks, and sorrows,” she wrote. “I will miss many things about this place, but the one thing that I will miss is all of you.”

Vivian encouraged everyone to visit The V Spot while it’s still open, promising to make other local suggestions for nail studios with similar warm atmospheres.

Of course, as one door closes — another nail studio opens. We recently got word that Sophie’s Nail Studio, a brand new nail spot, is coming to Jersey City sometime this summer. There are also many other wonderful nail salons in Hoboken to help ease the pain of The V Spot’s closure.
