A new barre studio has officially opened in Jersey City, and it’s one that locals might have already heard of. Pure Barre, a well-known studio that already has three locations in New York City, has opened its doors as of February 10th at 207 Van Vorst Street. Read on to learn more information about Pure Barre Jersey City.

The Background

What makes this studio unique is that it is a privately owned franchise by local Jersey City residents, owner Lisa and manager Ashley. Both ladies, who met at the West Village studio, have a combined 15 years of experience teaching and taking Pure Barre classes.

“Pure Barre is more than a workout – it’s a community and a lifestyle. Our team is comprised of local and experienced teachers who are like family,” Lisa and Ashley tell Hoboken Girl.

“Our goal is to be an active member of the Jersey City health and wellness community, supporting both our clients and other local small businesses. We look forward to community partnerships and events resuming, like the pop-ups we hosted with Departed Soles. We are also excited to feature athletic apparel, such as Alo Yoga, Beach Riot, Beyond Yoga, and more.”

The Classes

During each class, attendees can participate in a low-impact, high-intensity workout that lifts and tones muscles, and improves the body’s strength, agility, and flexibility. Modifications are given throughout the class, so even if someone has never taken a barre class before, Pure Barre instructors are on hand to make sure all levels can participate.

“No matter where you are on your fitness journey you will get a great workout,” the founders tell Hoboken Girl. “Our signature barre class is 50 minutes, and we will soon offer a Pure Reform {a reformer-inspired class} and a 45-minute Pure Empower class {cardio barre with wrist and ankle weights}.”

Given that Pure Barre is opening during the pandemic, the studio is setting forth Covid policies to align with similar protocols followed by local gyms. The policies are as follows:

  • Masks are required at all times, including in the lobby and in the studio. Masks must cover the mouth and nose at all times. Also, face shields must be worn with a mask.
  • Temperature checks and signed waivers confirming a member is in good health and willing to participate and comply with the studio’s social distancing and studio policies are required.
  • In order to book in-studio classes, members must affirm they are in good health, experiencing no symptoms of COVID-19, and have not been around anyone who has had symptoms of COVID-19.
  • There will be reduced capacity and socially distant designated class spots with member’s own equipment.
  • There will be 30 minutes between each class for deep cleaning of the studio. Staff will clean carpets, barres, mirrors, and equipment between every class.
  • All members will have a designated station at the barre to ensure personal space throughout the class. Bins will be provided for personal items {unfortunately the lockers are not open at this time}.
  • Instructors will refrain from using hands-on corrections and will, instead, cue adjustments verbally.
