New Jerseyans take Labor Day Weekend very seriously. After all, LDW wouldn’t be LDW without a trip down the shore. While Garden State residents are living their best lives at the beach, the Hoboken PATH station will be undergoing repairs. The Port Authority (PA) has announced a weekend-long closure of the Hoboken PATH station from 11:59PM on August 28th to 5AM on September 2nd. During the closure, PATH aims to repair the track and interlocking system. Read on for what to know about PATH’s Hoboken station closure during Labor Day Weekend 2025.
The Hoboken Station Closure
According to a travel advisory shared by the Port Authority, the Hoboken PATH station will be closed from 11:59PM on August 28th to 5AM on September 2nd for “urgent repairs to the track and interlocking system.” PA claims that this period typically sees lower ridership, making it a more convenient time to do said repairs.

Yes, this is the same interlocking system that was installed during Hoboken Station’s month-long closure from January to February. PA says that this system “has experienced mechanical failures in recent weeks due to design issues.” Emergency repairs have been done to “partially restore service to the station,” but long-term maintenance is needed. “Long-term repairs to the interlocking will enable the return of more frequent train service during peak hours,” PA says.
“To complete long-term repairs, new parts needed to be fabricated and shipped by the interlocking’s manufacturer. During the station’s Labor Day weekend closure, new parts will be installed and rigorously tested,” the agency says.
“The Port Authority deeply regrets the inconvenience experienced by PATH riders affected by the impact to service as a result of the interlocking’s mechanical failures, as well as the disruption riders will face due to Hoboken station’s closure in order to correct the root cause of the failure.”
Alternative Forms of Travel
Cross-honored ferry service via New York Waterway:
During this weekend-long shutdown, there will be multiple alternative forms of travel for PATH commuters, including a cross-honored ferry service via the New York Waterway.
