In 2026, doomscrolling on endless screens is out, and grandma hobbies are in. So if needlepoint is one of the analog activities you’re taking on this new year, a new studio opened in Jersey City that’s set on supporting new and experienced needlepoint enthusiasts. Morgan Julia Designs was started by a young woman who wanted to bring her needlepoint designs from Florida to the Garden State. Read on to learn about the newest needlepoint studio in Jersey City and why the owner chose New Jersey as her brand’s second home.
About Morgan Julia
Morgan Julia was raised in Annapolis, Maryland, and then lived in St. Petersburg, Florida, in recent years with her Goldendoodle, Captain. A couple of years ago, she got into needlepoint as a way to get off her phone and get creative. “Once I started creating my own designs, people really responded, which was such an exciting moment,” Morgan tells HG. “Opening studios felt like the natural next step as the brand grew.”

She opened her first store in Florida, and New Jersey is home to her second studio. Now, Morgan calls New Jersey home. She moved to Jersey City with her fiancé and tells HG it just felt right.
About The Morgan Julia Designs Needlepoint Studio
Morgan Julia Designs has two locations, one in Florida and now one in Jersey City. It opened at 278 Monmouth Street in December of 2025.
“Needlepoint is such a community-driven hobby,” Morgan tells HG. “You can order threads and canvases online, but there’s always variation in color, texture, and what things look like stitched in person. I wanted to create a space where people can come sit, stitch, learn, shop, and feel supported.”
The studio has needlepoint canvases, designs, and more that draw inspiration from classic, preppy, and nautical elements. All of the canvases are hand-painted and designed with what Morgan describes as a modern twist. These canvases are growing in popularity, having been featured on Bravo, Martha Stewart, and Packed Party.
Morgan saw an opportunity to grow her brand in Jersey City after doing her research and finding a lack of studios in the area. She was thrilled to open her studio on Monmouth Street.
“The light is amazing, and it feels like a real-life version of our online world,” says Morgan. “Our staff really makes it special. Everyone on our team stitches, and they’re great at making it feel warm and approachable, especially if you’re brand new to needlepoint and it can feel intimidating at first.”
For those just setting out on their needlepoint journey, Morgan’s studio is a great place to start.
“Needlepoint is such a personal hobby, two people could stitch the same canvas a million different ways,” says Morgan. “For beginners, start with a canvas that you love with limited colors. We recommend 13 mesh (the size of the canvas), and once you learn tent stitch, you can stitch anything. For experienced stitchers, we love pushing creativity and trying new threads and stitches.”
The studio also holds stitch nights every Thursday from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, where needlepoint artists, both beginner and advanced, can drop in and stitch with friends. She plans on holding classes for all levels in the future.
