About Millburn Deli
If you follow our sister brand, The Montclair Girl, you know that Millburn Deli has been an Essex County staple since its inception. The first location opened at 328 Millburn Avenue in Millburn in 1946. The deli has since expanded to Montclair, Morristown, and Westfield while still serving the same original sandwiches locals know and love. The deli is frequently ranked as one of the best in the Garden State.
The Morristown store opened in 2020, the Montclair location opened shortly after in 2021, and the Westfield storefront opened in 2023. The Jersey City location will mark its fifth store — and the Millburn Deli Instagram also reveals that the team is gearing up to open a Bridgewater locale as well.
As for the sandwich choices, there is certainly something for everyone. The menu is divided into nine sections — chicken cutlet, grilled chicken, beef, ham, “vegetarian-ish”, turkey, Sloppy Joes, build-your-own, and specialty salads.
Millburn Deli is best known for its Sloppy Joe sandwiches, a New Jersey staple consisting of three pieces of rye bread, deli meat of choice, Swiss, coleslaw, and Russian dressing. Other popular choices include the Jay Ray (chicken cutlet, bacon, cheddar cheese, BBQ sauce + chipotle ranch on a pressed sub roll); the Godfadda (chicken cutlet, bacon, fresh mozz, + Russian dressing on a pressed sub roll); the Gobbler (roast turkey, homemade stuffing, cranberry, lettuce, mayo, + black pepper on rye); the Griller #8 (thinly-sliced grilled chicken breast, fresh mozz, tomato, basil, field greens, + pesto aioli on pressed rosemary foccacia); and corned beef or pastrami reubens. Each sandwich comes with a garlic pickle chip, but trust us, you’re going to want to order a full side of pickles as well.

While the sandwiches are the main draw, don’t sleep on Millburn Deli’s sides. The bowtie pasta salad is a must-try, along with the coleslaw, macaroni salad, and other dishes. To top it all off, order an unsweetened or sweetened freshly-made iced tea.
