Hoboken has welcomed its fair share of new burger spots recently. In just the past year alone, 7th Street Burger and Dipped N’ Smashed have opened outposts in Hoboken, while Jerrell’s BETR BRGR made its debut in early 2023. Now, the Mile Square has yet another new burger spot to check out: enter Mashed Burgers, which officially took over the former Bareburger location at 515 Washington Street on Friday, August 23rd. Read on for more about Mashed Burgers, Hoboken’s newest burger and dessert restaurant.

Bareburger’s Closure

Bareburger first opened in Hoboken in 2014, and for nearly 10 years, served its menu of sustainable, organic, and (some) meatless burgers from 515 Washington Street. At some point this year, though an exact date is unconfirmed, the popular chain quietly closed its Hoboken location for good. Shortly thereafter, signage for a new smashed burger successor, Mashed Burgers, went up at the space.

Hoboken’s Bareburger isn’t the only one to see changes this year. The Jersey City location, formerly a brick-and-mortar on Newark Avenue, readjusted its business model to operate as a sort of “ghost kitchen” inside newcomer Better Days Bistro. Locals still looking to satisfy their Bareburger fix can order take-out and delivery only through the back entrance of Better Days at 126 Christopher Columbus Drive.

Like we said, Mashed joins a pretty impressive lineup of burger options here in Hudson County. In the past year, Washington Street in Hoboken has welcomed famed NYC joints, 7th Street Burger + Jerrell’s BETR BRGR, as well as Garden State-born Dipped N’ Smashed. Over in Jersey City, popular chain Shake Shack has continued to expand its legacy with locations downtown and in Newport.
