Popular NYC-based French cafe and bakery, Maman, is making its way over to Jersey City. A large storefront at 70 Hudson Street has been secured and renovations are underway. The cafe has locations in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Montreal, Toronto, and now, Jersey City. Read on to learn what the opening date will be.

Founded as a “Soho loft cafe” in 2014 by Benjamin Sormonte and Elisa Marshall, Maman quickly grew to be a local favorite for parents, business people, and everyone in between. Its versatile design, products, and overall vibe come together to create the Maman experience.

Patrons know and love the rustic décor and comfort food dishes inspired by family traditions, a nod to the founders’ mothers from the South of France and North America. Hence the name Maman, translating to “mother” in French.

In true cafe style, Maman offers a selection of baked goods, coffee, juices, teas, fresh breakfast, and lunch options including bowls, platters, and parfaits, as well as seated lunch that features soups, brunch on weekends, and a full bar at selected locations. A kid’s menu is also available and features classics like grilled cheese, PB+J, and breakfast potatoes.
The menu boasts a variety of farm-fresh salads, quiches, sandwiches, and pastries + sweets. Regulars of the cafe recommend the Nutty Chocolate Chip Cookie, named one of ‘Oprah’s favorite things’ for 2017, and one of the best chocolate chip cookies in New York from NY Magazine.
Maman is also known for being a popular event space and catering vendor.

The other Manman locations are open seven days a week, so it’s possible that the new Jersey City outpost will follow the same schedule.
The official opening date for the Jersey City cafe is February 14, 2022 – Valentine’s Day.
