Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day, Liberation Day, Emancipation Day, takes place on June 19th and marks the day of emancipation of those who had been enslaved in the United States. Local communities celebrate this historic day through educational and cultural events. Read on for a list of Juneteenth events happening in and around Hudson County.

Happy Juneteenth Craft Distribution at the Jersey City Free Public Library

Visit the Marion Branch Library to borrow books, sign up for a library card, access any library services, and receive a Juneteenth Craft to do at home to celebrate and learn about Juneteenth.

The Black in Bayonne community group, along with city officials, will raise the Pan African Flag at Bayonne City Hall (630 Ave. C, Bayonne) in celebration of Juneteenth.

African Cultural Arts

The African Cultural Arts Family Festival will have live entertainment, vendors to shop from, and food. Live entertainment at Saturday’s festival will take place from 2 to 5 p.m. with Innovative Demand Drill Team & Drum, Spektrum Afrikans Dancers & Drummers, Roc & the Collective, and Geovanni Arenciba & the Afro/Cuban Jazz Band.

Vendors and food will be available throughout the day.
