Joey “Pants” Pantoliano, a Hoboken native and Emmy award-winning actor, is well-established as a Hoboken hero. Best known for his roles as Ralphie Cifaretto in The Sopranos or as “Guido the Killer Pimp” in Risky Businesses, Joey has notoriously stolen scenes with his rough-around-the-edges characters. His most recent role, however, shows a softer side to the veteran actor and took place right here in The Mile Square.
Last night, on December 4th, Joey’s daughter Daniella posted a video to her Instagram story describing a situation in which employees of The Tree Barn (located at 6th and Willow) in Hoboken chased and ultimately caught a rogue Yorkie terrier that had slipped away from its harness. See the video below.

While Joey didn’t actually rescue the dog, he was in awe of the valor these men showed in their hunt for the runaway pup. “The dog was running so fast, it’s a miracle it didn’t get run over. And these guys, they’re the saviors, saved this dog!” Joey went on to describe the scene as “amazing,” and he and his daughter urged shoppers to bring their dogs to The Tree Barn on secure leashes.
Joey now lives in Connecticut, but it’s clear that a visit to his hometown is never without excitement. A huge thanks to him + Daniella for sharing the story, and an even bigger thanks to The Tree Barn employees for protecting our pets (if you have their names, let us know — we’d love to shout them out).
There’s truly no better feel-good holiday story than this one. Someone call Lifetime and tell them to write a script — we already have our leading actor.
