Hoboken is known for many things, including great Italian food. Whether you want to dine out, get delivery, enjoy a large homestyle meal, or just have some apps and a glass of wine, the options are endless. But, even though we’re filled with amazing local spots, that doesn’t mean we don’t have room for more delicious Italian family recipes. {Let’s be honest, there is always more room for Italian food.} One of the newer Italian eateries to join the Hoboken community is Il Tavolo di Palmisano, located at 700 Clinton Street, which opened right before the pandemic and truly hasn’t gotten the love it deserves just yet — so here we are.

Il Tavolo di Palmisano creates authentic, Italian family recipes with a modern spin, and you can dine inside or outside for brunch, dinner, or dessert right now — or, you can enjoy their homestyle dishes delivered right to your door. They are now serving weekend brunch with unique cocktails and have some seasonal specials that you won’t want to miss. Keep reading to learn more about this family-inspired Italian restaurant, Il Tavolo di Palmisano, in Hoboken.

Owner Frank Palmisano grew up in Hoboken right on 4th and Monroe Street. He is a former Hoboken Fire Battalion Chief and has over 45 years in the restaurant business. Frank has always had dreams of opening a welcoming restaurant with his family and featuring their historic recipes as a nod to the generations that came before him. Il Tavolo means “the table“, in Italian, and growing up in the Palmisano household the table was always the place for the family to gather. Frank wanted to bring the same comforts of his family home into this new space.

Frank partnered with his brother, Fr. Peter Palmisano, in opening this new space. Peter also grew up in Hoboken but instead of getting into hospitality, he became a Priest and Pastor at Our Lady of Mount Virgin in Garfield. Even though Peter isn’t involved in the day-to-day operations, he and Frank came up with the feel and idea for the space together.

Il Tavolo di Palmisano officially opened in February 2020, but like all other service-based businesses, it had to make some major shifts to continue to service diners during COVID-19. Now reopened for indoor and outdoor dining, as well as take out and delivery, diners can expect authentic Italian dishes with a rich history. And, the back dining room has a large table that seats up to 14 people, great for small gatherings. The room is filled with photos from the lives of everyone in the Palmisano family, paying homage to everyone that inspired the menu and feel of the space.
