Hoboken World Cup Block Parties: First Weekend Recap + Remaining Schedule

With the World Cup now underway in New Jersey, plenty of fan festivals and celebratory events are happening throughout the state, including in Hoboken. In case you missed it, the City of Hoboken + Hoboken Business Alliance are hosting the Big Match Block Parties over the next two months, and we got a chance to see all the fun IRL at the kickoff event. From small business pop-ups to family-friendly programming, the block parties are not to be missed – and luckily, there are still plenty of opportunities to get in on the action. Read on to see a recap of the first weekend of Hoboken’s Big Match Block Parties, and when to catch the next ones.

The Details

The City of Hoboken and Hoboken Business Alliance recently kicked off the Big Match Block Party series in Hoboken on Saturday, June 13th + Sunday, June 14th. The event series is a citywide celebration of the World Cup, which involves 13 rotating block parties over the course of the sporting event.

We had a chance to check out the first set of block parties and had a blast. Think all the energy of the big games without any of the traffic: watch parties, kids’ face painting, and our favorite part, plenty of pop-ups from local Hoboken eateries.

Future Big Match Block Party events will feature pop-ups from other Hoboken restaurants, shops, and more. HG pro tip: Some will be hosting special deals, events, and discounts, so visit here for more information.

How It Works

Hoboken’s Big Match Block Parties will be held in six different fan zones that pop up across different Hoboken neighborhoods. The zone locations are as follows:

• Zone 1: First Street between Washington Street and Garden Street
• Zone 2: 10th Street between Park Avenue and Willow Avenue, Garden Street and Bloomfield Street, and Bloomfield Street and Washington Street
• Zone 3: Grand Street between 14th and 15th Streets, including under the Viaduct
• Zone 4: 14th Street between Bloomfield Street and Washington Street, and between Washington Street and Hudson Street
• Zone 5: Sinatra Drive between First Street and Fourth Street
• Zone 6: Adams Street between Fifth Street and Sixth Street

Residents and commuters should consider that transit routes may be affected by the block parties.
