Jersey City now has one less Irish pub to grab a pint and some chips with friends. After five years, Hudson Hound will be closed for good as of June 26th, according to an Instagram post from the restaurant. The modern Irish bar and speakeasy had been a go-to spot for Guinness and good food at 8 Erie Street for several years. The Closure + About Hudson Hound
Hudson Hound opened its Jersey City location in 2020. It was one of three restaurants owned by two Jersey City locals who wanted to bring a bit of Ireland to the downtown area. The original Hudson Hound has called the West Village in New York City home at 575 Hudson Street for over 20 years. The Jersey City location served almost the same exact menu as the West Village location.

Dozens of comedy shows, dance parties, and private events were held in Nucky’s, the restaurant’s speakeasy in the basement. The name came from a famous American Irishman, Nucky Thompson. The speakeasy felt like a distillery-style hideaway during the prohibition era, apt to Nucky’s legacy.
In an Instagram post, Hudson Hound Jersey City said: “We are saddened to announce we have drawn the final curtain today. We very much appreciate all the good times we shared together and look forward to seeing you all again soon. We would like to say a special thank you to all of our staff whom helped us build all of our regulars and friends alike over the years. We are still serving the perfect pint of Guinness at [the] Hudson Hound West Village! See you there!”
