On our 10th anniversary year of Hoboken Girl, allow us to reintroduce ourselves.
Hi, we’re The Hoboken Girl, and we’re so excited you’re here. We are a team of locals that love all things local + fun.
We started as just one person, and over the past 10 years have grown into a small team of people who enjoy covering local topics, events, and news.
We are a hyperlocal site, and we always want to cover what’s happening on social/in forums/what people are asking about.
We brainstorm as a team “what would local residents want to know about this month” as part of our ways of doing pitch meetings and curating our editorial calendar, in addition to local submissions, events, and news.
We also receive floods of DMs, FB group posts, and messages asking for various content, including things like “Where can I get a blowout in town,” or “where can I find the best ramen.” So we write about that, too.
We come from an editorial background, have an internal stylebook, meet frequently, Slack constantly, and we usually assign our content out 1-2 months in advance to our writers, with newsy content mixed in.
We love to share about local businesses and we are curious about every business, so please reach out — and know it’s never personal if we haven’t covered it yet. We are a small team of locals, and we do our very best.
We’re in the business of making readers’ and our neighbors’ lives better, more connected to local happenings, and sharing fun content via our team. That is how we have always done it, and will continue to do so.
We love hearing from you, and though we realize that internet chivalry is dead, we do read your comments and take things to heart. We’re humans, and we’re your neighbors.
We give back in every way we can to the community — donating to various charities and non-profits through our events, giveaways, shop, and more. Things like our Prom Dress Drive, Period Supply Drives with The Flow Initiative, painting Women Rising’s children’s center, and our newly-annual Animal Rescue Puppy Bowl are some of the ones that stick out as favorites.
We love a good meme, especially a Hoboken one. We love seeing your tagged photos and videos.
We appreciate all that we have been able to do in the community in the last 10 years so much — we are eternally grateful.
In some ways, 10 years feels like a lifetime. In other ways, it’s just yesterday.
But just as change has been a constant in our story, so have all of you. Whether you’re just joining us now, or have been an OG supporter since Jen started in 2012, we’re so grateful for you.
Whether it’s sharing a meme, tagging a friend, reading an article, sending news tips, asking a question, participating in an ad campaign, signing up for our email list, coming to an event, or anything else to support us or be a part of the community, we thank you.
We look forward to what the future holds for The Hoboken Girl and thank you to each and every person that brought us here, online and IRL.
