Beach season…wedding season… whatever your plans are this summer, it is time to get those fingers and toes in tip-top shape, or square shape, if that’s what you prefer. Whether you are an acrylic, gel, SNS, or a simple Essie kind of person, Cuteticles Nail + Spa in Jersey City Heights {410 Central Avenue + 389 Central Avenue} covers all of your mani-pedi needs. In addition to their nail care, they even offer a variety of massage, waxing, and facial services. With so many five-star Google reviews, we wanted to see what all the hype was about. Keep reading for a review on the salon and their dip powder service.

    First Impressions

Before even entering the salon, the convenience and ease of being able to schedule an appointment on the website = very impressive. The salon also has an app where reservations can be made on the go, and customers can receive exclusive beauty tips and promotions.

The salon is located in the heart of the Heights on Central Avenue, just a couple of blocks from Washington Park. There is also another location, Cuteticles Loft, which is found across the street, on the second floor. Overall, the staff was friendly and welcoming. Even with an appointment, however, the wait was about 10 minutes for a chair to open because the place was bustling.

    Cleanliness

On a scale of one to five{five being spotless}, Cuteticles deserves a solid four. It is one of the many salons across Hudson County compliant with sanitation laws. The metal tools undergo the highest level of sterilization with a method called “autoclaving.” The salon also uses disposable manicure and pedicure kits, and a spa pedicure liner. A point was docked, however, because basic tidiness could have been improved. We visited on a very busy Saturday, however, so it was understandable.

    Pricing

Pricing at Cuteticles Nail + Spa is standard and similar to other nail salons in the area. One great perk is the rewards program offered, which is free and never expires. For every dollar spent, customers get 2.5 points, and after 500 points, they receive $5 toward their next treatment. Customers can also receive 20% off on their birthday. Manicure prices go as followed:

    • Classic Manicure – $12
    • Gel – $30
    • Dip Powder – $45
    • Classic Pedicure – $25

    The Dip Powder Experience

The dip powder experience did not disappoint. The entire process took about 45 minutes, but lasted over two weeks{never chipped, only grew out}. It can be difficult to keep nails intact for more than a few days, but these babies were as strong as steel.

^This was TWO weeks out = still lookin fresh.

The nail technician was very meticulous and careful with each nail and cuticle. The brand of dip powder used was Kiara Sky, which had a soft, sandy texture. There was a wide variety of color options from shimmers and metallics to pastels and neons.

    The Final Verdict

Overall, Cuteticles Nail + Spa was a pleasant experience. Tidiness could have been improved, but it was reassuring to know that their tools and cleaning methods are compliant with sanitation laws. After experiencing dip powder, it is going to be difficult to go back to regular gel or polish. Based on how long the nails lasted, how sleek they looked, and how strong they felt, dip powder is definitely worth the few extra bucks. If you are looking for nails that will not disappoint in JC Heights, Cuteticles Nail and Spa is a great choice. Walk-ins are welcome, but appointments are preferred especially during peak times, so get on the website or download the app to make your reservation.
